I am a beginner and I don’t want to ski anymore

I have never skied before, but I have got everything I needed in anticipation of the upcoming ski season so I can go skiing with my family for the first time. I made the mistake of buying Montec because I liked the designs and I had a limited budget. I recently realized it’s a brand that everybody loves to make fun of and I am scared that I will be mocked on my first day of skiing wearing it. I kind of don’t want to go now if I can’t sell it

Budy, I recommend you don’t ski if you care that much about what others think. If someone is fucking with you because of the brand you are wearing you shouldn’t want that persons validation anyway. Just go have fun and do you bruh.

If this is real-
If by “everybody” you mean “a very niche group of predominately park skiers on the internet”, then no worries- lots of people at the hill wear montec, and i have a couple friends who rip hard who wear montec. At the end of the its a freakin jacket that you have on to keep snow out. I skied old rental skis and costco snow pants until i was in high school because thats what was cheap. Dont worry about it, have fun, and be respectful and youl be fine

when life gives you problems you will find that there are always two options. save the WD-40 for another time. this one a job for duct tape.
a lot of us on here have been in a situation where we had a perfectly warm and dry jacket but we were not stoked about the big logo that either leaked water through the logo and/or was advertising for some sort of brand that we did not want to advertise for. just put duct tape over that spyder or virtika or tomahawk international logo and problem solved. no need to throw away a perfectly good garment that works. if you are a fashionista type you might even think the duct tape is some sort of fashion upgrade and go on to design a whole line with duct taped over logos like spyder did that one year

go in the woods behind the park, and look around for a glowing chest. almost every park has one, and thats where all the cool kids get the baggy clothes and look pivots

the ski hill is not a high school hallway lol and you’ll see a lot of people in dope/montec jackets. you’d likely get made fun of for wearing it if you hit the rail lips as jumps, in parks/terrain above your level, and stuff like that.

end of the day if the choices are wear montec and go ski, meet people, learn a new skill, and have fun or sit at home with you dick in your hand doing the same shit you always do then i think the choice is clear.

Not me. Can’t think of many who would. Don’t get me wrong I got some strong ass opinions but I’m not going to shit on a beginner just trying to learn and have fun for wearing something I don’t vibe with.


OP you do you. Or if you want, here’s my advice. You could modify what you have real easily, whether that be with duct tape like someone said, or with a sewing machine. Hell, you don’t even need a sewing machine… classic thread and needle will do the trick just fine. Maybe go thrifting or something and find an old hoodie or shirt with a cool logo you like… vintage sports team hoodie, local brewery, college near you, you name it. Cut the logo (s) out neatly and sew them bitches on to your jacket. Now you have something to stand out with, 1/1. Nobody will have what you have which I think is always cool, and everyone will be complimenting you on it.

OP let me tell you a secret. I haven’t skied much the last couple years and I need new gear. I’ve always been a supporter of “core” brands and strictly wore saga and armada for a while. I just bought a pair of like $45 black ski pants off Amazon and they are THE warmest ski pants I’ve ever had. Like, several years ago my outerwear was costing me 200-300 for a jacket or pants and I was always frozen… but I looked cool/wanted to look cool.

But now? Idgaf. Give me something practical and it’ll do just as good of a job.

As you get more into skiing, you’ll start to like certain styles, skiers, brands, etc. And you’ll be able to support those brands as you wish. But for now, seriously, just wear the montec. I almost bought some pants from dope snow (which I think is like the same thing?) and only didn’t because I found cheap af pants on Amazon. Whatever keeps you out on the hill is the best outerwear for you

The fact that you're on this site and know about the reputation Montec has here is actually pretty impressive. As an instructor I am always baffled by the amount of people who come into the sport knowing absolutely NOTHING about anything. Like seriously, you didn't even bother to google "how to ski" before you drove out into the middle of nowhere and spent all this money on gear and a lift ticket? Keep doing your due diligence and research and it will make life a lot easier for you.

I am not a fan of Montec as a brand, but I don't think any less of the people who wear it. I just think they are an inexperienced skier who wanted affordable, good looking gear, which is exactly what you are :). There are plenty of advanced skiers that wear it too, but if you want people to think you are more experienced then you are, you've got other problems.

If you really want just wear another jacket. It doesn't have to be a "ski" jacket, any jacket will do. I just wear a hoodie most of the time, sometimes with a waterproof shell over it, or just a regular jacket. You can always go with the classic sweater-and-jeans outfit.

Final note: Please don't ignore the used gear market!

Don’t worry about what other people are gonna think of u g. Montec is just a commercial brand and “core” skiers like to make fun of it bc of that. Don’t trip tho just enjoy your day of skiing cuz really we’re all just trying to enjoy this sport together.

From my understanding it’s kinda like fast fashion but for skiing but I don’t fully know

i think it’s dumb and a lot of my friends have dope snow/ montec cause where broke highschool kids

they rely on influencers to show off their gear instead of core shredders so my guess is thats where a bunch of the hate comes from. they seem to market to the people who like the idea of x games but dont really watch it, go to the hill for spring break and not to involved with the sport. its a big market for sure. they do get some smoke shows to advertise for dope snow (im gonna hate fuck one this year /claim) but not to many shredders. jesper is on dope snow for sure though which makes sense as they are swedish. they just aint core enough for newschoolers. if you see someone in montec/dope you can assume the love fireball and hate down rails and 9/10 times be right.

*disclaimer: jesper is a fuckin g even if he does rep dope snow
