Old pivot 12 AFD plate

So I recently bought some 2015 blends with older pivot 12's/FKS 120's. I went to a shop to get the bindings remounted and moved up a little bit and the shop called explaining that the AFD plate on the older bindings arent compatible with my newer gripwalk boots. (I forgot that Gripwalk wasn't really a thing in 2015). Anyway, I was wondering If I could just buy a new AFD plate online and swap it out or do I have to get new bindings? Thanks for the help

Would i be able to put them on an older pair of pivots? The guy at the shop said that I can’t replace the AFD plates but then I saw these online which is why I’m confused

A lot of times you can just change your soles which is typically much easier and cheaper

Yeah but I have like 3 others pairs of skis that I ride regularly so I don’t really wanna go through the effort of changing out the soles. Also I do a lot of boot packing so I like the GW. Its fine I’ll j buy a pair of new P12’s from corbets or something for cheap and then sell the current bindings

That’s fair. However if you have a power drill it takes like 30 seconds to change them. (Can be trickier if your boots have been canted

If the shop is a Look dealer they should be able to directly order that correct part. I know those afds are still available. Unusually the shop will charge for shipping though which can be expensive if their default is air freight

Sadly it seems like you can't just remove the AFD plate from this model and year. I'm pretty sure that this shop is a Look dealer but they said that there's no way to just replace the AFD plate. It's fine, imma buy my friend's P14 from last season if I don't stumble across a good deal.

Hmmmm I suspect they are smoking pack but I can't say without seeing the bindings myself. New bindings is the best solution regardless 👍

The rockered sole on GW boots wont sit properly on the alpine AFD. You will likely not release because theres so much friction between the sole and afd

It'll be overly tight and not release properly. However, some people do run it that way and just don't care about the safety aspect so that's up to you.

Isn’t the afd plate just a different form of rubber/plastic for GW? And it seems to sit higher from the looks of it. Kinda confused how the AFD comes into play?

it's a completely different angle, alpine AFD's are more flat whereas gripwalk is more angulated.

So the bottom part is removable. could I order these and then slide the old toe piece on or are they incompatible? The dude at the shop said that the toe piece was one solid piece but I think he's wrong lol.

Hole pattern and spacing is the same so just take a dremel to the thing and make it fit

I'm all for making things work with a dremel, but that won't unfortunately. The two toe pieces have many different dimensions that would make that extremely hard to do while retaining the safety aspect, might as well just run the gripwalk sole in the old toe piece as is at that point.

Okay, last question before I suck it up and buy new bindings. could I use these to change the GW soles on these boots? And would all GW bindings also be compatible with the new soles?

If those alpine soles fit your boot then yes, that'd be a cheaper way to make your boots compatible with your non-GW bindings.

Also yes, all GW labeled bindings are compatible with alpine soles.
