littleman34Maybe you should create an upper echelon list and going forward they will be the only accepted pro skiers.
Call it the NS list. Highest skiing acheivement of 2023
PattolanI’ve been skiing for 20 years and still don’t know what a “pro” skier is

weastcoattechnically speaking I think youre considered pro if you can live strictly off of the money you make skiing. Which probably means there’s not a whole lot of pros out there lol

quintcorkDoes that mean steepsteep's a pro 😭
b0ssWhy does the industry need 8000 pros? Remember in 2007 when there were 12? They were gods. I don’t want 17 minutes of 2 off, I want freaks! Quadruple flipping, grimy urban part having, backcountry slaughtering freaks and nothing less.
quintcorkDoes that mean steepsteep's a pro 😭
jamessmoakI disagree. I think we need less quad flipping freaks and more pros that ski like Zane Kushman.
fabbeI think we should consider people pro when you have made a a shredsauce recreation of them

BLandzIn my humble personal opinion, this has to be the worst, socially accepted take I have ever seen on NS. The biggest problem that freeskiing faces is the fact that it is objectively the least self aware sport of all time (especially brand wise) . If you only pay the top level best athletes, the heart of the sport is just going to collapse because pretty much the only kids who can do x games lvl shit are academy kids. For a child, watching a quad on skis is mindblowing and very inspirational, but for any reasonable person, its pretty discouraging, and is the reason why a lot of people quit. Their idea of being a good skier is straight-lining into a 100 foot jump and flat basing a quad cork, which is about as far removed from skiing as you can get without classifying it as a completely different sport altogether. There needs to be more funding for team projects and shit like that. Like no lie, its fucked up how ridiculous K2's team is and how little content they produce. Thats a massive company, riders need to take initiative and tell brands like that to make a team project or some shit. Why are the big brands not funding slvsh, or team vids, or any shit thats actually going to appeal to the average human who doesnt want to watch a circus event. Companies like ON3P easily produce the best content in skiing because they actually make a team vid. Mike Carmazzi is borderline AM and makes better content than 80% of x games riders. If you want skiing to get bigger and better, make it more accessible, big brands don't necessarily need to pay athletes better (or maybe they do idk tbh) but at least make some content that doesnt suck dick you dumb fucks, hire me to make ur vids ffs.
jamessmoakThe two people that downvoted this were paid by FIS and USASA to silence the truth.

quintcorkImo park skiing is too small or a community compared to any other sport which is the reason for a lot of this.
BLandzMy last instalment if this rant is going to be me mentioning the fact that NS has the potential to essentially be a community curated THRASHER esque page. Why ppl post their shit on YT but not NS is totally beyond me. Its literally YT but already filtered down to just skiing, its the best marketing tool of any sport in history and ppl don’t use it because they’re scared some anon troll demon is gonna make a “hate” thread about their video (maybe not lol). If brands made better videos, ppl posted the good content on NS and saved the clips for IG. Skiing will reach a new golden era.
Don’t be scared to upvote videos. The community needs it. Don’t upvote things that you don’t like but if ur a lurker make and account and support the videos you fw.

BLandzThat is true but it doesn’t explain how a brand like Vishnu can make better content than K2, Salomon, Volkl, or Armada with significantly less funding. Im sure Vishnu isn’t really paying the riders that much but for a bigger brand theres gotta be more incentive to create good content. At the end of the day, I think athletes need to speak up and if they can get a little bit of funding to make a team part or something thats great. Not every “Pro” skier needs to make a living on this shit they just need some cash for a flight, gas, little bit of food and a couple lift tickets to make content
BLandzThe other side if this problem is obviously the fact that brands know they can just toss some kid that posts 50 times a year on ig some free skis and get exposure.
People say that ppl don’t watch full lengths because of their attention span and I disagree. Kids have no problem watching a 2 hour movie in a theatre if it keeps their attention.
Zootspace got 184K, Faction team vids get 100K plus easy. If you make the focus of your vid the skiing and not some corny artsy shit your video is gonna do well. A good full length is obvs better than any IG post, its just gotta be done right. Nobody would ever disagree with that, than why arent big brands doing it?

hi_vis360This is why I do think there are too many “pros” or whatever you want to call it. Instead of having a dedicated street team of like 10 - 20 people that gets well funded for content every year, brands just throw 50 - 100 people free skis to make instagram posts of park clips, and then fund a few athlete solo projects. It makes it seem like they are doing more because they are helping more people, but they’re really just spreading themselves too thin to make meaningful content. Huge shoutout line skis for releasing a street movie this year, I believe armada is doing the same next year. Companies like K2 and volkl should absolutely be put on blast for not doing the same
Slugger66I agree with everything you've said, but this is the most astute point. NS continues to drop the ball time and time again from a marketing standpoint. NS should be the entity producing movies, hosting premiers, and planning comps.
I admittedly know nothing about the dynamic between NS and its parent company. But I do know that platforms attract investment. All of the ideas I described could be entirely funded through sponsorships and brand deals.
Also, what ever happened to NS merch? It's like the entire team just decided to let the brand die. Such a fucking shame.
TwigIt's pretty pointless getting defensive on the internet but we are definitely stepping up on that front, or trying. We would love to have Thrasher money, but we are making a bunch of shit this fall. Hopefully, you enjoyed the Originals series, we have more coming. And a few new series too.
We do have merch it's just usually sold out. There's a beanie available right now, while we have em, and we have a collab pant with 4West dropping in the next few weeks. We should also have a few t-shirt runs and small run items dropping through the season.
BLandzIts not NS’ fault, its the communities fault for not using it as it should be used. You guys don’t even need money for it to work, its supposed to be the hotspot for posting ski content and somehow theres more stuff on YT. Like I said, NS is just YT but filtered down to only what you want.
Those pants are sick af btw

nCrowAgree with pretty much everything you're saying, although I do think we're already in a new golden era of skiing. There's never been so much good content being put out in the history of the sport. Whether or all that amazing content out there is translating to skiers getting the recognition or compensation they deserve and more people engaged with a thriving core community is definitely an interesting conundrum for the industry right now.
