What's the deal with Mt Bohemia?

I wanted to go there for the longest time. No grooming and their season pass sale made it super appealing. Props to them for keeping it cheap and even offering a lifetime pass for the cost of an epic/ikon pass lol. Now that I've been tons of other places with sick terrain, I'm struggling to find a reason to ever go there, a 12hr drive. Most New England resorts and Mt Bohemia, MI are equidistant from me.

Genuinely curious, what is so special about it? If you live closer, sure, but what's the appeal for those who live far away?

It has a rugged feel and the vibe there is great. I can’t put together an argument that it’s “better” than some of the best east coast skiing, but it’s a unique place and I’m glad I went there while I was living in the Midwest.

They get almost 300 inches of snow and it’s one of the only places I’ve been that you can ski 360 degrees around the mountain. It essentially all feels like side country, and then this bus will pick you up wherever you end up.

Idk who owns it but it feels family owned, and from what I remember people were really there to ski.

The terrain is really cool and tons of it, especially if you know where you’re going. Basically all tree skiing and you can find some decent sized cliffs, biggest I’ve dropped is like a 20 footer. Tons of snow (usually) bc of lake effect off superior, and pow stashes stick around in the areas people don’t go as much. What really sells it is the vibe. Lots of car campers, hostel style staying in yurts if that’s your thing, and the Nordic spa set up with bar. Hot tub, pool with volleyball, sauna etc. Cheap season pass with really good reciprocity, hard to go wrong. I have some posts on my insta that show it off well if you want to check it out

Boho gets the best snow this side of the Mississippi.

Boho has some of the most technical terrain this side of the Mississippi

Hot tub the size of a pool, and it feels like a resort dedicated to side country.

The keweenaw is a scenic place, being on the island sticking out on superior is cool itself.

A season pass is 130$ and gets you free days at a handful of other places.

Really interesting/weird culture

I think it's worth it to visit at least once

Bohemia is an overhyped, poorly run, disgrace of a ‘resort’. The potential is there, but the management is so bad.

If you live nearby, sure, but to make a 12 hour trip is ludicrous.

Unless you like riding with a bunch of people from Wisconsin or Chicago who are really there just to drink, bump backpack speakers, and act entitled and insufferable.

This was kind of my impression. Stayed in the hotel, never again. Everyone there thinks they rip, and some do. Party scene isn't for me in general but felt really odd there. Lots of thirty somethings reliving their college days for sure.

Yeah I usually find one or two cool people to ride with every weekend. Most of the time they're locals or from Marquette, Duluth, north Wisconsin etc.

95% of the people that ski there suck. They do one "double black" at boho and suddenly they're all "yeah I could probably do a backie into corbets". Like, brother, I just watched you side slip down the whole thing. Or all the "BROOOOOOO it's so DEEEP. I love POW POW" when we get a 2 inch dusting.

And the Shaggys skies people too. Shaggys is a cool company but Jesus the people that ride them are all insufferable

BOHO is a movie, tryna wake up in a yurt, then ride the best terrain in Michigan, and go get drunk and chill with a bunch of ski bums in a hot tub. Mt Bohemia is your place

can confirm their demographic is bigger dudes. the owner even said in an interview they could run the triple as a triple if their demographic wasnt big dudes, but it is so they cant hahah

Also used that to try to deflect the fact that their lift sucked when ever people brought up that the actual ski infrastructure needed improvement.

they also said are getting a new lift phased in starting with the terminals. imo its cool thats its a little shanty esk. if you want glitz, glam, and luxury go to boyne, if you want to ski go to boho.

Was in Wausau WI for work could see living there and being happy with 700 sq ft of vert night skiing etc 5-10 mins from your cheap AF house. I don't think Bohemia is much higher.

The yurts seem wild. No way id stay in there with randos. Would be fun with a crew of people you know though

Highkey recommend, Wausau is chill as fuck, cheap to live here, couple good breweries/music venues and some pretty damn good food. Also it’s easy af to travel from here. Granite is legit for what it is, park crew puts in great work and community is pretty chill !

Mount Bohemia certified epic... if you go after a big storm. best on weekdays. plus they have a nice spa for some after ski relaxation. overall good vibes only. enough terrain to explore for a day or 2

I really want to get up there this season just to people watch. And I'll make sure to mention that every run isn't as good as Alta.

Shaggy's really is a true michigan ski company too. They make custom carving skis for dads from Southfield w/ beer bellies lmao. I saw a dude in a lifted 4-runner tricked out with everything in a parking lot at Meiijer in Lansing the other day w/ a Shaggys sticker and that was enough for me to know the clientele.
