J_skisParticipating in these gear tests is actually a TON of time and money for the companies, so we took a break last year to focus our energy on getting our new retail shop / bar / lounge up and running efficiently. Planning on being back in the mix this winter!

hot.pocketDing ding ding
soupI stopped buying buyers guides when I found out it's a pay to play system and not genuine.
Newschoolers did a fantastic job of some ski tests check those out.
Sick_BirdWhere at?
PartyBullshiitWhat easier about blister?

hot.pocketWith stuff like Freeskier, we have to attend a week of testing at a resort. We have to arrive with a fully mounted demo fleet, multiple sizes of each model, pay a bunch of money, tons of travel time, not even regarding the $$ it's a lot of time and effort invested.
With Blister, all I have to do is ship them some skis. Couple weeks / months later, flash reviews, full reviews, and deep dive reviews start popping up on their website. The only other thing Blister ever asks of us is graphic files for the buyer's guide.
sskAll these tests are pay to play...sorry but NS is included in this
PartyBullshiitThanks for shAring. I never knew this. Makes a lot of sense. You guys usually have a tent at the blister event too no?
hot.pocketWhoops, forgot about that event. That one we do pay to be a part of, it's a fun time and is a lot more customer focused. While reviewers are going around trying out models from all kinds of brands, most of the people taking skis out are customers who signed up for the event. It's much more of a huge demo week for everyday skiers instead of a week dedicated to industry ski testers.

olicThe only non pay to play guide as far as I'm aware
PartyBullshiitLooks like a great time. I’m hoping to make it out there this time around.
deelonmuskCorrect good sir. Every company whose products are included in our Buyer’s Guides, including our latest 23/24 Guide, have paid us $0 to have their products reviewed. Same with all the reviews on our site.
And if you support this kind of honest work, buying the buyer’s guide or becoming a Blister Member goes a long way, and you get a lot of perks like discounts on J, Moment, 4FRNT etc. Plus BLISTER+ gets you $25,000 of $0 deductible coverage if you get hurt skiing or doing a whole bunch of other activities.
After all, if you’re not paying for it, then you are the product.
olicThe reason your reviews are the only ones I trust, one day I'll sign up to the membership, make myself an official member of "The 100" and then bother you with ski questions, maybe even make it to The Summit one day from the UK as we have nothing remotely as good in Europe.

CaptainObvious. This makes me very curious. Is there a situation in which a much lower effort non-pay-to-play review/guide could be assembled. I know logistically it would be a nightmare and it’s hard to do this without testers you can compensate, but if someone was trying to coordinate a review roundup non-profit style, would J skis be willing to bring that someone into the fold to see gear early? Do you think other companies (more specifically the smaller and better ones named in the OP) would be open to that?
im legit asking out of curiosity from the perspective of limited “in the know” industry knowledge
deelonmuskThis is basically what we do here at Blister, apart from the “lower effort” part. And no, it’s not easy 😅
