Ski suggestions

Coming back after a few years looking for an everyday ski for out west. Last pair I had were some K2 Marksman which I liked. All time favorite were the old SFB’s, JJs and Atomic automatics. I generally follow the snow so my biggest concerns are pow/soft chop and maneuverability in trees. I tend to get a little more cantered/back in my stance. I gravitate toward more playful relaxed skis. Local shop suggested a few I just wanted some input if anyone has experience. Currently looking at the Ranger 108, SFB (I’ve heard they changed), Bent 110, and the RMU Apostle 106 (never heard of this ski but came highly recommended). Any suggestions welcome, I feel like everything has changed in only a few short years.

Moment commander 108, Rossi sender 110, line bacon or blade. I have heard great thing about these skis. I have heard the ranger 108 is kinda floppy and have a huge amount of rocker if that’s your thing. Out of what I recommended the commander is probably the stiffest/ hard charging. The sender 110 literally had no speed limit, and the blade which I had last year was really maneuverable and somewhere in the middle of the stiffness spectrum. Super fun skis tho you can’t go wrong with any of em.

Every friend I have that’s ridden the bent 110 didn’t really like it, said it skis dead and not playful..

Every friend I have that's ridden the 110 liked it! Tahoe based. I enjoyed the 110 myself. Felt much more like a real chetler than the fake ass 100

Moment wildcat 108 for all around playfulness, Wildcat 116 if you want the extra width for powder. If you’re looking for something that can charge a little more but can still be fun the moment countach is a great option.

the bent 110 is a nice ski as well. Far better than the 100 but less fun than the 120. I personally found the 100 a soft noodle. 110 was better but still lacking compared to the moment skis. The 120 I only use for powder.

the moment commander mentioned above is also a good ski, but keep in mind it’s a very chargy metal layered ski. So it’s going to be the most stout. It’s also discontinued at this point. So it’s going to be harder to get a hold of depending on sizing.

what size do you ideally ski length wise?

I’m 6ft 185 so generally in the 184+ range depending on the rocker profile. Definitely looking for more of the playful/floaty ski more so than a charger.

Moment has last years wildcat onsale in 190. But it does bump up to a 118 at that length. I personally have a pair of the 190’s 118 and they don’t feel that wide. Very usable even at that length and width.

the commander 108 mentioned by others is also available in 188. But again it’s a metal layered ski with a near flat tail. So it wants to charge.

if you don’t mind paying full price then you have the full size run available in the current Wildcat 108,116/118 as well as the countach in 110.

JJs are note 5 point anymore, and are mid tier skis, the ARV line killed what it was.

Bents are just also mid, very mid.

Ranger 108, honestly not a company supporter but actually a good ski.

RMU Apostole slaps, but has quality issues, could be a sleeper if you aint out there every day.

Agree, it’s a v playful and surfy ski. Easy going and pivots nicely in trees. Noses and tails are soft and butterable. I find that the long/low rocker is nice for anything under boot deep, otherwise doesn’t plane up as easily as I’d like. It’s worth looking at esp if you don’t want to pay moment prices. I have a few edge cracks on mine and have been thinking about getting another pair, Corbetts has the 2022 version for $362 USD rn. Also level nine has pretty nice deals on SFBs, Sakana/Pescado rn

Idk who told you SFBs could charge but I want what they're smoking. Maybe the new ones a little more but yeah not really. The Ranger is a great ski which sees updates this year, would recommend. The new Sender 110 is worth a look too
