Looking to Rent in the Aspen CO area

I've been given the option of a 1250$(p/ person) room to share with 1; it's the option given to me by the company; i feel like it's really expensive . Any affordable houses to share with many also helps if you say so... Honestly just trying to find something not to far away too; i find places that are like an hour away but without a car it's too much time lost on trips daily.

1250/mo rent is incredibly cheap for aspen.... if you can't afford that then I wouldn't recommend moving there. It's really expensive and there are other mountain towns that are wayyyyy cheaper and probably fit your budget better.

Guess i'll better check some facebook groups; im from Argentina so this is fully new for me; as an instructor here is much easier to find where to stay; plus the salaries give us way more options too; best pages or sites to check?

There are places all over the US that are cheaper to stay, I'm not saying don't get a J1 and live in a mountain town, I'm saying Aspen is outrageously expensive, might be the most expensive by a mile. Its like $4000/month to live in a studio apartment there, so for your budget you would need to get some bunk beds and share a studio with up to 3 people. Maybe they have employee housing so your best bet would be to reach out to the mountain directly and see what they have but just renting in Aspen is something that only very rich people do.

My recommendation would be somewhere in summit County, I have had friends work at keystone and their employee housing wasn't the prettiest but it was like $600 a month for housing which is at least cheap.

Back in 2010 the best option for seasonal housing was Craigslist.
Sounds like Facebook is the best resource for finding a place.
Type in Roaring Fork valley roommates and a couple groups pop up.
I would suscribe to them all now and post up your looking to move to the area.

Roaring fork is the Aspen to Glenwood springs area. I personally never lived father than snowmass. Living past that your paying for the bus but Aspen ski co did sell discounted buss passes.


Snowmass is on the free bus system and I spent 5 years living in the employee season apartment complex. Was 5 min ride to snowmass lift and 30 (45 in bad weather) to downtown Aspen lifts for free.
I would try to get on the snowmass apartment wait list as well as it was cheapest in the valley. 4 individual rooms with two bathrooms. I think it was 650 a month per person all utilities except internet. I’m sure it’s more expensive now but I’d put money it’s still the cheapest while not living in a room with bunk mates.

Also if you have any restaurant skills put them to work for a couple nights a week. Easy money, will help cushion the blow. At the right place you could make some fat tips and help pay for the months rent.

Where is the housing they offered you?

Aspen might be the most expensive place to live in the entire country. I would look into other ski resorts if possible.

I’m just saying this because we had Argentinian J1s at my local resort and they were actually able to bring some money back to Argentina when they left. It will be a lot harder to save money in Aspen.

I would argue it is one of the top 3.
4 mountains totally over 5,000 acres with a free bus system. Not on the epic pass, far enough away to keep front range weekend warriors and Ikons.
Large enough community to work as much as a ski bum wants.

If your not considering it the best what’s better?

Thanks!! Will try the snowmass apartment wait list; rn they offered a room in the Wildwood hotel; it has some utilities but it doesn't have a kitchen. Plus cero privacy and sharing with a stranger as they don't disclose the employee list either.

You're considering non-terrain factors but my top 3 would be Crested Butte, Winter Park, and Abasin probably. Just off of the terrain itself, if we're talking towns then honestly steamboat blows aspen outta the water personally

$500 - $750 is actually really reasonable it just wouldn't seem like it if you are in the outside looking in. When I lived in Aspen/Snowmass proper I never paid more than $900 a month and that was for a big room with a walk in closet and one room mate in Club Commons Building 1. I don't mean 10 years ago either I lived in Aspen/Snowmass from 2019-2022. There's even a 1 bedroom unit available on APCHA right now for $972 in Asspen.

What you've got to be looking at is APCHA ran apartment complex's and applying for them instead of looking at a normal apartment site like you would in a more normal place. Then if you really cant find anything on APCHA you use employee housing. Generally if you are using employee housing its worth it to work for Aspen Skiing Company as they've got the nicest and most employee housing of any company in the valley.

Now of days I would avoid Club Commons (Snowmass) unless you are getting in Building 1 as the other ones seem to be filled with drug addicts and loud ass neighbors. But if that's your thing then Club Commons is your place.

My favorite short term apartment complex in Aspen is Burlingame, you pay $650 a month and live across the street from Buttermilk. It tends to fill up with music students, however it is an APCHA complex and will rent to anyone under who makes under ~$55,000 per year. Its Clean, often quite and only does two bedroom units so you don't have to deal with 3 other people.

A lot of the good stuff in Aspen proper has wait lists longer than you can imagine, so a lot of the time the only open spots are for dorm room style apartments like Holiday house and most of Snow Eagle.

If you do end up with Aspen Skiing Company the options they have down valley are much nicer than anything they have in town. Even Tiny Town felt more like a home than Club Commons Building 4 ever did and its just a newly renovated trailer park.

Are you working for Aspen ski co or a 3rd party company. 1250 sounds a bit steep for employee housing but Aspen is super expensive.

I think I paid 650 in the housing by the rodeo lot in snowmass my last time there 2016/17. Still a little while ago but still pretty recent. But yeah housing is tough.

People communte from Glenwood springs even. Unfortunately Aspen is one of the most expensive places to live. Very sick spot though. Highlands on a pow day is pretty decent.

Best of luck on the hunt. Housing sucks even at the "easy places" these days

Hi dude; yeah for Aspen Ski Co; they gave me this option, but I don’t think is their “own housing” more like subrenting a room from one of the aspen hotels. I’ll try to ask them for other options; as this is wild compared to what i started finding on apcha or the prices you guys mention! Thanks again everyone

Damn yeah. They've been doing a really good job with housing for a long time. But there's a lot of staff and real estate is super expensive. The stuff they have is good but there's never enough.

Is there anything farther toward Glenwood? They have or have had employee housing in some of the other towns. I think you can get a bus card for free or subsidized if you're commuting. Always nice to be closer but at least the bus system is solid.

Hopefully you can find something cheaper. It's tough a lot of places these days. Cool spot if you can make it work though.
