flat bars seem to be stickier sometimes but they have some advantages, presses and 50s and stuff are easier on them. feel like it might be less intimidating for noobs too
if you're referring to square rails like the ones that are roughly the same dimensions as a round bar but they are square with right angles, yeah idk i'm not aware of any advantages to those plus they don't seem to slide as well. so if they're dying out that's fine with me
Afton got a lot of old flat bar rails they put out a lot, im not a huge fan. They feel kind weird to grip and swap on, but they are nice for some things

The illusive skinny flat bar. IMO these are the best for learning nose/tail slides, I prefer them over the normal 6in wide ones
I loved a good bar style rail. Killington Parks, back then they existed, used to be like 50% bar rails of all different kink types and they were bad ass. Super fun to trick and lots of them were on the tough technical side. Nowadays Woodward just has like all tubes lol. But yeah they’re dope.
I like these a lot, they dont seem to get that sticky I find and they feel kinda different and cool, like this rail wouldn't be that specisl if it was round but hey when it's a skinny flat it kinda stands out. They also feel super solid underfoot

I think its nice to have a mix. A lot of places will have 1 or two. Not usually a ton of square rails in the world theae days. Mt snow used(maybe still does) have a 25-30' down rail square. Always set low ish maybe 1.5-2'. Lots of tricks learned on it.
I think a nice mix is fun. I agree about the fat flat bars getting sticky sometimes. If youre sliding them it makes little difference.
Also round is nice for locking into the inside versus being just in top of something.
Tower tubes have continued to get bigger. We usually set some short tower tubes in with our mini box line. A flat bar as well. Like 7 or 8' stuff. Some people will skip the rails and side jump but eventually gets people hitting them.
Kids are less scared going from a flat box to a flat bar a lot of times. The tower tubes have helped, but some mtns dont have any tower tube jibs.
Round is the shit but I think flat bars have their place in the mix. Various diameter round is nice too. Skinny stuff, the 4", tower tubes.
Variety of heights and lengths of rails. A few creative combo and kinjs, and aome variance in material are always nice imo.
I do see the hate for the flat bars, especially because some mtns had or still have terrain parks that are 100% flat.
Weekendwarrior69Does anyone actually like hitting square rails? Seems to me like they were a trend at some point back in the day and have kind of died out.
Kyrilmonot sure if youre saying this because you actually think the symbol is wrong or if you didnt like my order
1 circular
2 shotgun
3 boxes
4 square

Was saying it cuz my order is the exact opposite lol
If you're talking the "box rails" - the ones that are like boxes but all metal - screw them. Ate it so hard this summer trying to hit one of those and came to a complete stop (felt like sandpaper). Had a bruise the size of a soccer ball on my ass for weeks.
