I broke my tib/fib (quite low down) a month ago now and went to fracture clinic yesterday and they couldn’t give me a very clear answer when I could ski again or if I even could. I’ve got a titanium rod in my shin now and I am still on crutches non weight bearing for another month, below are pre/post op x-rays
VailValleySkierYou need to ask your surgeon, not a ski forum.
This.
Ortho OR nurse here. I send patients home in a cast anywhere from 2-6 weeks after this surgery. Depends on a lot of factors that the surgeon ultimately decides on. But total recovery time can be 6-8 months (depends on surgeon recommendations though). You’re probably looking at 5 more months if you’re otherwise healthy and healing properly. But that spot is going to hurt in a ski boot if it’s not completely healed and rehab’d sufficiently
edit: most of my patients are 50+ so also your recovery time is probably going to be less but in my experience these are the timelines we tell people

I broke my tib/fib 11 weeks ago and have been walking for the last 5 weeks without crutches. My break is a little different higher up and was weight bearing as tolerated from day 1. Have been doing all my own PT since I don’t have insurance. My leg completely atrophied though after 5-6 weeks of no use, but starting to get back to lunges, squats and leg presses as of the last two weeks. I’m sure you’ll be able to ski again down the line my surgeon said I’ll be ready to ski before next season as long as I’m diligent with PT and rebuilding the muscle. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2-pF5jpzGhM this guys break is pretty similar to yours and has some other videos on exercises and tips during recovery I found useful. listen to your docs you’ll be alright. The stories I heard from people on here after I broke mine definitely put my mind at ease a little bit. This was my break.
