Fireworks are stupid

As I sit here listening to Russia bomb....oh wait just my neighborhood continuing their 3 week celebration of the 4th...annoyance and amusement in their idiocracy hits hard.

The US spent $2.3 billion on fireworks in 2022. 99% of consumer grade fireworks come from China.

Funny how we shit on China but rely on it to celebrate our "independence" 😭.

What I also find funny is how some of the poorest people still find a way to blow months of paychecks on fireworks.

Think that bogo is a good deal? Lmao you're getting robbed even with that "deal". If you think pharmaceutical companies have a markup, you should see what Phantom Fireworks costs are. Suckers. Anyone who buys this shit are suckers.

it’s great when people suggest we get rid of fireworks in USA. Too dangerous, too many body parts blown off—that’s kinda the point, we have the freedoms to mangle ourselves, family and friends. And you say—soend 2 months of income on chinese explosives.

You mention ridiculous markups on fireworks—that’s the world we live in today. Our economy and general economic rigidity is in such shitter that even premium items are made in China now. The $350 NHL hockey sticks are now made in China. You telling me somebody isnt making enormous markup there too? Used to be $130 sticks made in Canada/Finland, now you pay $350 to China

i’m just happy my 4yo daughter was into fireworks—i thought the red packs of large cylindrical “M150s” were probably fountains, turns out they are actually big firecrackers (probably 4-5 lil ones rolled into one) but she was into it, also wanted to stay up late for the big fireworks.

to me, fireworks are the one of the last semblance we have to freedoms these days, when you go blasting them off, you’re reminded of: do we *need* bigger fireworks? Do we need higher capacity or more powerful guns? Do we need faster cars? No in theory, but absolutely yes in practice

One time in high school I had some firecrackers and I was at a party. I was in a hallway stairwell that went to the basement. My buddy turned the corner and saw me about to light them and he was like no no no! As i lit them inside. I lob them up but they bounced off the wall and i caught them to throw again but they started going off in my hand so i dropped them and ran into the basement. There was like 75-100 people there so i said someone dropped them and i happened to be there. In the morning I came back to confess my sin 😆

We use to take medical tape and wrap sparklers together. If you leave one sticking out you can use it as a fuse. Shit would blow a crater in the lawn lmao I'm super lucky I didn't get hurt or worse and it's def on the dumb end of the spectrum of things I've done

Yeah sparkler bombs are fucking crazy af you tape it correctly. Otherwise it just shoots a giant flare.

I was going to be in the boundary waters for the 4th of July during a camp so I snuck some fireworks into my sleeping bag. Some kid ended up finding them while digging through one of our bags and I got in pretty big trouble and they banned me from the camp. But my siblings still go every year,

Also most fireworks that you can buy are lame. Blowing up old cars or buildings with tanarite is way more fun. My boss found a special way to make tanarite that can be detonated with only 1200fps pretty sick. I don't know how to make it but my friends neighbor had a shack in the woods and he taught benny how.

Fireworks are a scam and waste of money but they can be fun. If you go to phantom, the lock n load is the biggest reloadable mortar you can buy. So fucking loud. Shit will blow up a porta Jon. Smaller mortars are fun to light and toss in your yard if it's big enough. Or cut open a mortar and toss the insides into a bonfire. They used to have these rockets called thundersticks until the atf discovered they were overloaded-basically quarter sticks. Those things were badass. Same with the flashing thunder roman candle; used to be way more overloaded. If you cut open a roman candle, you can make individual firecrackers with them. I definitely did not do any of this because that would be illegal.
