How did you make guardians last 10 years

ATK freeraiders would be ur best bet for what ur describing imo. I would avoid kingpins as I know a lot of people have issues with them (one of my friends pairs completely broke on him).

Total mystery. I've worn out 2 pairs of skis under them too and there's nothing wrong with them. I just want to upgrade because I'm doing longer tours They are actually the Atomic branded ones so maybe it's that logo holding them together

I would trade two pairs of Rotations or Kingpins for one pair of ATKs all day. They're a lot better. If you can get Looks for that cheap, can you get a BD deal? If you can, buying ATKs through Black Diamond is a smart move.

I find it hard to belive atk 14 with the pin heel ski better than kingpins , are they elastic enough? I have rotations, they transfer too much chatter and never feel confidence inspiring even with big boots. Was considering kingpins, might be swayed by atks... Got more arguments for them?

ATKs are a LOT lighter, they ski just as well, they transition much faster, they’re (anecdotally) more durable, and they’re generally just better to use.



Like, the entire experience of owning and using them just blows kingpins and rotation/radicals absolutely out of the water.


I don’t usually say gear is just plain “better” but ATKs are.

I got some Salomon MTN pure's last season and ma completely sold on lightweight pin binding. Wasted a few years with the CAST system, b4 realizing I'm old enough I do not need to ride pivots, and shed the weight.

Have never owned atk so I can’t comment or compare, but after being on frame bindings for years I finally switched to kingpins and they really feel great. Much more confidence inspiring than other tech bindings, they feel and literally look like they can be skied as hard as you want. Clicking into the heel piece on the descent just feels good and right.

I’m aware they’re on the heavier side of tech bindings but they are still really light compared to a frame. I think if you can get a decent deal on them, they really are one of the best free ride tech bindings available and there’s a reason why they’ve been a go to for lots of riders for many years now. They aren’t the lightest or quickest to switch from tour to ski mode but imo that shit really doesn’t matter as much as gear reviewers seem to think because from my experience most people reviewing them are concerned about the touring capability more than the downhill performance. Touring buffs don’t like to be told that their approach to gear isn’t the best or only way to think about it lol, I find most are just too scared to admit that they’re buying dad gear because they can’t get over the weight saving obsession sweeping the market. Light weight is the only thing left to focus on when you no longer have intact acls and a thirst for airing and spinning off of everything. But I digress, the cons for the binding hardly exist imo, the burliness of them if preferable to me and the heel feels better than pin heel connections to me, more natural flexing feeling.

Have no complaints and would happily buy another pair since you can find them in the $350ish range if you hit a good sale
