Valle Nevado Chile

Anybody skied down in Valle Nevado Chile? I've got 7 days there on my pass so I'm looking at a trip down there late summer, maybe early September. Any advice on travel/lodging/skiing would be most appreciated.

All my chilean friends travel there to ski and it seems like they have blast. I went to Chile last year and it was relatively similar as far as prices go to the US. I'm doing Argentina next month instead, cheaper and Bariloche is home to a bit bigger resort. Buena suerte!

only a few different lodging choices at Valle Nevado. I'm not sure how the Ikon days work down there, cuz most of the packages are for lodging, tickets, and 2 meals. If you stayed down in Santiago there is a couple of transports you could take from Ski Total, and get to experience that crazy road 2 times a day! Might be cheaper than staying up at the mountain, and you could ski El Colorado, and La parva as well. Really though lift tickets are going to be the least of your expenses.

I went pre-COVID and had a great time despite them having one of their worst seasons (in terms of snowfall) in 60 years. We just used one of the shuttle companies in Santiago to drop us off and pick us up and then got an Airbnb on mountain. We spent extra on the Airbnb because we wanted a place with a hot tub, but it turns out we didn't need it because there was a big free hot tub at the top of the village. I remember it being similar in cost to to staying in a US ski town back then and I imagine things have only gone up since then. Also, most people in the city didn't speak English, so you might want to pick up some Spanish if you plan to spend time down there. Mostly everyone at the resort speaks English though.

I ski here, but in La Parva (the resort next to it) I wouldn't recommend valle nevado bc it's full of tourists (Brazilians who can't ski)
and the slopes aren't as fun, but yeah since you've got no other option, the snow is good in general and you should ski as far from the gondola as possible, then it should be more fun and there should be fewer jerries around (la parva is better in general but the people in charge of taking care of the slopes don't give a shit so the snow is usually better in valle)

won the freeskier trip to chile a few years ago, valle was sick but i wanna experience portillo on a good snow year.. the riding there is crazy!

conditions are best in valle nevado, go there at least once and go to the highest peak it's like 12k feet i believe

also don't forget about el colorado or la parva, la parva has a great park scene from what i remember but they're all good

where will u be staying?

not really, I agree abt the conditions in valle, but la parva hasn't opened its park in like 2 years, also it hasn't snowed yet.

Take a time machine and go back 12 months. Last year was the year to do South America and the best one they had had in ages. This year's been a brutal start for them.

I bailed on my trip bc Chile was still requiring proof of vaccine for pretty much everything and I didn't have a spanish speaking friend that wanted to join.

It was the best season in many years. I think they're gonna get pounded again this year.

I think an airnbnb in farellones + buying all your food in santiago before going up is the cheapest/best option. Eating or staying in valle nevado is ridiculously expensive and staying down in santiago is a huge pain in the ass.

I'm gonna be down in Chile in late August, most likely riding Valle Nevado. Don't know a ton about the mountain except that its a pretty big and mainstream spot, is close to Santiago, and is on the Ikon pass. HMU if you end up going in August

I also saw on the trail map that it's attached to two other resorts, La Parva and El Colorado, anyone know about those mountains?

La Parva is the best in a powder day (small 10-20 min hike from the top lift to some of the best freeriding there), el colorado sometimes builds the valle olimpico park (best snowpark in south america, rarelly open) and if there is a lot of snow in lower elevations go check out santa tere, its a bunch of heliskiing sized runs that you can access directly from el colorado or via valle nevado with a lot of traversing and ends in a road where you need to hitchhike back up.
