Hey all, passionate skier about to graduate with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. Don't want to go down regular big tech/defense/HVAC pipeline. Would love to do something related to skiing/outdoor community/conservation. If anyone has any leads that would be incredible! I love design and manufacturing work.

There's always a balance between passion work and work that has great benefits that let you enjoy your passions.
It's one thing to do what you love, it's another thing when benefits like pension/401k matching/pto/salary/wfh opportunities are being offered in industries that aren't as sexy.
But don't let me scrooge you out of doing something rad. I wanted to do the same thing but with racecar stuff and don't regret getting into a less sexy industry with far superior benefits.

Most realistic way to do it is to find something close to your favorite place to ski with a flexible schedule. Boring jobs have to compensate more than cool/exciting jobs, because less people want to do them. You might have to balance how flashy the work is with where it is and how good the pay is.
I graduated ME+AE and found something niche in the automotive industry within daytrip distance of the places I bike and ski. I know I won't be hitting the resort on weekdays much, so I'm mostly focusing on maximizing my riding on the weekends.

Free_noah on Instagram. He does aeronautical stuff and he’s a surface skis engineer. Super friendly and responsive on insta. I’d ask him.
