Baggy snowpants

I’m in round 2 of sampling for some Arsenic snowpants with a very baggy fit. (Way different than the answer pants). They are gonna be called the Arsenic Strides. I love making names for stuff.



anyway, the reason for the thread-

what are your must have features for snowpants? What do you love about the pants you have? What do you wish were different about the pants you have?

Im planning to have these be more affordable than most snowpants youd find in a shop. Probably similar pricing as other small/skier owned brands. So I won’t be able to have everything on these, but I will do my best to hit the right marks. Thanks in advance for your input!

Belt loops for starters, elastic draw bead at the bottoms, and a stripe down the side for aesthetics on spins. Stoked to see how they turn out!

Elastic or draw cords at the bottom of the cuff. Not a separate snow gaiter type cuff like you see on most pants, but in the actual shell material. Keeps super baggy pants from fraying and catching when you walk

Pockets that don’t tear apart within a week are always a plus, besides that as much waterproofing as possible

I would want a pant less than $234 if its not completly hand sewn in Vermont.

Proper DWR so my ass doesnt get soaked when I sit on a chair lift. The Answer pants did leave me soaked after only a couple laps on icy chairs.

The drawstring ankle idea everyone is throwing out is a good one, I would want the excess to loop inside the pant to be kinda hidden like 686 does on their "Everywhere" pants. I would also want a rubber type material around the inside of the ankle where the drawstring would be so it doesnt slide up easy.

No fly zipper and button as it can look really bad easily on a baggy pant making them drape weird and is mostly useless in ski pants.

Tough belt loops.

ALL BLACK colorway by December.

Invisable zippers for the vents and pockets would be so clean, but just making them 2x smaller than the Answer zippers would be nice enough.

An embroidered patch where the print on the Answer's was would be cool.

90% of the US Population is right handed! It would be better than have the back pocket on the right.

Would be really cool if you gave a few pairs to the Vishnu guy and the Lizard man for them to make a couple unique variants to sell.

I have Answer pants which I quite like. The only problem is that the end of the leg and the elastic band are pretty tight and hard to get over the boot. This makes tightening the boots a bit of a hassle and I'm afraid I'll rip the pants.
Making them like 2-3 inch wider would make them easier to use + they would look better over the boot i.e. covering more boot.

Answer pants has a perfect waist, being baggy enough but adjustable with the belt is awesome.

Other than that, leg vents are a must, skiing park gets you hot.

Looking forward to copping these! If you make them in black and like gray or brown I'll get 2 pairs for sure.

In no particular order:
Durable
Elastic around the bottom cuff to keep it on my boots
Bibs
Pockets on each side of hip and each side of knee, don't care about backpockets.
A main bib pocket in the front with an opening for wired earbuds

I'm probably in the minority but after living with large cargo pockets on my saga anomies for years (which I use for food, hats, gloves, beers, etc.), I have a really hard time wearing anything that doesn't have these kind of pockets or similar storage. They are just too handy. Stoked to see the final product!

Cargo pockets on each leg and maybe a small pocket specifically designed for a lift pass rfid card. Also insulated enough where it doesn’t flap like a flag but still looks baggy and not rigid

elastic bands at the legs (to avoid cuts because of ski edges, idk how to explain it better)

Honestly, proper cuff guards to stop edges from slicing up the boot area as best as possible. That area getting sliced and filled with snow is my biggest issue with all the new baggy pants. That aside, elastic + drawstring waist and decent pockets and you're good to go. Personally, I prefer a heavier woven material to a shell fabric but I guess that's just taste.

Waterproofing is really easy, the trick is waterproofing while remaining breathable. You don't want just fully waterproof pants with no breathability. You'd have them sauna legs lol

I love my answer pants but wished they were baggier at the hips and thighs and a little less insulated. I can only wear them when it's really cold out or if I'm going to be sedentary.
I have the 686 Dojo pants also and those are my favorites out of all my snow pants.
I have Bloom pants too that I like but they're so worn out as they were the only ones I had for several seasons, and then working outside all winter this year. I have a lightweight pair of 686 that I like too, but again wished they were a teeny bit more baggy. I hate the back pocket on them. It's Velcro and really hard to open.
So, your light weight version of the 686 Dojo pants would be sweet.

If there are cargo pockets they go on both sides, good ventilation if insulated/mega waterproofed, smaller but not regular sized waist, reinforced cuffs.

Big pockets but not so big your phone or other heavy items bump on your knee cap, that hurts.

also wouldn’t mind a keychain hook inside the left pocket to attach keys to. And make the zippers close downwards! Nothing worse than a zipper then opens over time with heavy impact because it closes upwards

also please keep it traditional, the whole elastic cuffs look weird, if you make the inner elastic strong it’s super easer to roll up, but a bungee or something to tie around the end works too

I got two pairs that are my go to. Harlauts are alright, but they just get soaked.

Anomies got it all, look good, tons of space, vents, adjustable waist, the inner mesh makes it hold shape well, waterproof, breathable, and have strong cuffs.

Lizard pants are the only brand that has all the above that I see, my only complaint is I wish they were a bit bigger

The answer pants went stupid hard at hood this year. Never got too warm with shorts under and vents open. Probably about 25 pairs on hill per day on average up there too.

I rlly like the way my current pants are baggy around my hips make my ass look fat. also the way the naturally move around without flapping too much. but i wish they were a slightly thicker matterial and wish they werent tight around my boots

I personally prefer a straight fit. A lot of classic companies seem to be making pants that are a bit tighter around the knees and flare out a bit lower down. Hate this. On the other hand, some pants seem to curve/balloon outwards. I guess this is what people might call parachute pants. Not a huge fan of this either.

I like durable belt loops. Some pants have elastic waits but I find that it's way better to be able to adjust the waist, especially if I'm carrying heavier stuff in my pockets that make my pants fall down lol.

Having adjustable cuffs via a synch is nice too. I prefer that to elastic cuffs.

I think durable/reinforced crotch is key. I've had some pants split there. Luckily I've been able to fix it pretty easily with a sewing machine but still not ideal. I also think having the boot area being reinforced is also a good idea.

Personally prefer zippered pockets to Velcro pockets. Also prefer shells to insulated pants, so you can layer when it's cold and not layer when it's warm. I'm biased for this because it never gets crazy cold where I ski.
