What’s the cheapest way to ski out west this summer?

What’s the cheapest way to go to either mammoth or hood this summer? I trying to find the cheapest flights, best airport to go to, cheapest transportation, and cheapest bnb. I know camping is pretty popular so I also would like to find out more about that and how to do it but any other cheap alternatives for sleeping would work unless it’s some weird homeless type alternative because I ain’t doing that. I also don’t really care if i go to hood or mammoth so tell me which ones the better choice.

Hood is expensive as fuck to ski in the summer from my understanding. I heard rumor they don’t even have a pass for the summer this year.

Mammoth will be cheaper for sure, especially if you have an ikon pass.

It's pretty tough to do it "cheap" without driving, camping is essential for maximum money saving as well. By this time of year, it's pretty pleasant to camp in mammoth or hood.

Both are going to be expensive day tickets, but Mammoth will have far more terrain open, summer at hood is just one lift on a pretty average slope, mammoth you can ski top to bottom still and thats a super legit fun run. Don't get me wrong, palmer laps are mad fun, but it's 1/4 the vert of Mammoth.

Is camping considered "homeless type vibes"? If so good luck on cheap. As mentioned cheapest is to drive so you have a vehicle and camp somewhere. Crash a hot tub or hotel shower once in a while or meet people that live in the area and trade some beer or weed to shower. Skiing is expensive even in the summer. But if tickets/pass are the biggest cost then you just have food to worry about and some beer money.

Rental cars and airbnb, you just opened another world of $$$. If you have a few friends to split with and shorter term still totally doable though. Solo really the only cheapish way to do it is drive and camp. Not bad though. Just pick up your trash if you do.

Not really. They have in the past. On3p used to do a slopestyle there. They have a few rails though. I've seen people set them up or build a jump before though.

Great vibe there. The pass laps are pretty fun, free camping with cool people. Def met some good folks. There's a new skatepark in Red Lodge. Pretty small but fun. Can get a little crowded and I'm not the biggest fan of evergreen stuff sometimes.

I think a season pass is like 250 or something and day tickets are like 50. Its not much but its fun. Can always go and ski a few days at the ski area and spend the other lapping the chutes.

Just so everyone knows, I live in the east coast and I am only 16 so going by plane is basically my only option. I am wondering what the cheapest ways to go by plane are as well as how to go about camping there.

i hate to be that guy, but you're probably not going to be able to achieve this goal as a 16 year old. You're going to need to rent a car at minimum and that's nearly impossible under the age of 21. Flying with camping gear could be possible, but a plane ticket (especially this late) is going to be expensive, going somewhere you've never been before. you'd be better off paying a ski camp $2k and everything would be provided for you.

There is but they dont fly in the states. Your cheapest flights are going to be through Southwest if they are available from your neck in the woods to Portland.
