Ski camera

I'm on the lookout for a camera that can give me that VX-1000 look without breaking the bank or falling apart while filming ski clips.

I like the aesthetic of VX-1000 footage. Finding and affording original VX-1000 cameras is getting harder, and their durability is often pretty questionable. That's why I'm in the need of an alternative camera that can deliver that VX-1000 feel, without draining my wallet or being fragile while filming park skiing.

I want to capture rails and a bit of jumps without damaging my gear. So, I'm reaching out to skiing filmmakers for recommendations. Is there a camera out there that can offer the VX-1000 style, while being affordable, durable, and reliable?

Hmm I would recommend trying the Gopro Hero 3!

I looked what the footage looked like and i might get it. Maybe i should put a fisheye on it and mess a bit with the setting to make the video from it more yellow.

ima just stop being an ass. The vx2000 and 2100 are cheaper, newer and more reliable versions of the vx1000. They both include an LCD (which the 1k doesn’t) and probably won’t break randomly for stupid ass reasons. They don’t look quite as good as the 1000 but if you want some previews most of my videos are filmed on a vx2000 that i bought for $200.

Wait that was sarcasm 😭 I was riffing on the Hero 5 post above.
genuine advice do not get a hero 3 lol. If you're gonna go the gopro route look for at least a used Hero 7 or above cause then you get stabilization and have the option to use Protune to manually change the camera settings and produce much better looking footage.

They also don't do great in low light but any camera will need an additional light for shooting night skiing regardless.

Finally, a gopro won't give you the vx style look you're after.

You should check out vx_fisheye_sales on instagram, he's been making adaptors so you can put a mk1 fisheye on any camera really, so you can get the similar feel of the vx but on more recent cameras

check the size of your lens threads, buy fisheye accordingly. if there are none that fit perfectly you can get adapters (as long as the size isn’t far off). Throwing my 58mm fisheye on my dvx (72mm) looks goofy as fuck because of the difference in size.

quite a lot of demand for vx1000s so you'll probably be paying a decent amount of money on an old camera that may or may not even be in good condition. And this is just my opinion, but vx1000 looks pretty shit if you don't really know what you're doing, and looks fantastic if you do. If you're going SD I'd recommend the dvx100b. Based on my experience it's way easier to film with and pretty reliable. Way cheaper too. If you like how ETG looks, then you might want to check out the dvx.

Safe bet is to buy a sony camcorder. They can be really cheap, super easy to film with, very light weight, and great zoom.

I can't remember if I messaged that page specifically, but I messaged to ask for a price and I was told that he's taking offers. So I'd have to put in a higher offer than anyone else who was trying to buy. Sounds like an auction to me, except I can't see other people's offers, nor do I know what the fisheyes/cameras are going for because these pages rarely post prices. Kind of wack to me

yeah i guess i didn't really think about the price, and didn't read that OP wanted something pretty cheap. The prices are very high right now.

Depends if he wants to film in 4:3 or not, but I have an HMC150 that i got for 400$ with a kapkur fisheye on aliexpress (same as an opteka fisheye) that was around 150$ i think, and it is a very solid setup and it's not a pain at all to use since it's sd cards. OP could maybe look into a DVX100 that will look much more like a VX but I've never used one of those

p2 footage is almost as common as iphone footy. it’s great looking footy but shits getting played.
