sindreplassenyou should get the hpx170, lighter than the hvx and doesn't have the tape/card system. the colors are better than the hmc too, best cam imo
olofhalvarssonHow hard is it to use p2 cards? Ive just heard theyre expensive and thats why the hmc was interesting cuz of the SDs

sindreplassenits honestly the same as using a sd card, just find one with the card included, 64 gb is nice. buy this cable from amazon if you end up buying it: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00NH13S44/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1634&creative=6738&creativeASIN=B00NH13S44&linkCode=as2&tag=jacobtheopowe-21&linkId=387a7dd21fc412ff6473717b4c4df45f
its easy to import if you use finalcut, don't know if other softwares support p2 still
olofhalvarssonAight sick thank you, you think it would do okay on longer zoom shots? Like bigger backcountry lines?
olofhalvarssonAlso anyone have thoughts on the af100 or the fs100/700?
Christian_BaleNever filmed with an hpx but it seems to produce higher quality videos than the hvx, which would have a slightly older look if that's what you're going for. The hvx is quite a heavy cam, whereas the hpx doesn't have an obsolete tape deck. From what I can tell, hvxs go for cheaper than hpxs and hmcs, but p2 cards are hella expensive. 64gb cards seem to be going for about $200 USD these days.
You mentioned the vx1000 which looks way different to the other cameras mentioned. If you want a reliable camera that films SD, I'd definitely recommend the dvx. Way cheaper than the other options too.
olofhalvarssonWhich dvx? I thought it shot tape aswell
i think the hpx might be a good fit if i can find one witha p2 card cuz theres also some good telelenses for backcountry shots
Christian_Balepanasonic dvx100b. It records on tape but it's a relatively light camera and easy to pass around. I think the hpx would be a good option if you can get a decent deal on a p2 card. I've noticed that people tend to sell p2 cards separately online for more money, but sometimes you can find a listing on FB marketplace where someone's selling the cam with cards included. I would say that hpxs are in higher demand compared to hvxs. It seems like a lot more skaters are filming with hpxs, and more skiers too, especially since zootspace dropped.
OreoMuncherI use two canon xha1's in the backcountry. they light and kinda strong but they your gonna hafta deal with tapes. The auto mode is nice for passing it to your friends, that's what I do. The zoom is great aswell.
olofhalvarssonhow well does the xha1 do with slo mo? Thats the only thing w the hpx and hvx is that they have really good variable frame rates but the xha1 looks better if its possible to smoothly slow down footage
olofhalvarssonThats what i figured aswell, just wanted an alternative if the 3ccd cams wouldnt do amazing in the backcountry shots but the hpx might be good enough
NoahsArkP sure the first couple carnage movies are shot on hvx200. And those are some of the best backcountry vids in the past 5 years imo. They definitely are great for backcountry shots and a breath of fresh air compared to all the RED 8k 120fps tgr stuff
