Wides vs. Uppers

Torn between the Wide/Wide+ and the Upper. I know they're fairly different when it comes to shape but just looking for some input on either ski. I live in the PNW and ski mostly park, but I freeride prolly like once a week or so. when im skiing the locals it never makes sense for me to actually bring my pow skis so i boost around a lot on my park skis. Would the upper be a better choice simply cuz it seems to fair better all mountain? How is the wide/wide+ outside of the park?

i rock the wides everywhere and it’s sick they just take getting used to the softness hitting big stuff.

V’s ride fun so if you’re worried about stiffness the plus should still be sick but more practical

I have reg wets and uppers, and for everything except for rails and fucking around I prefer the uppers. They can actually carve while still being mad easy to butter.

My homie rips his wides in pow with zero issues, you’d probably be fine w wides if the flexibility isn’t an issue or wide plus which is probs closer to the upper, I can’t say much about the uppers tho never really talked to anyone whose on them

I'd say the uppers if you're looking for something for all around. I say this knowing that Surface is dropping I think May 14th presale and it seems like a decent amount of deadstock from the 2023 uppers (none are sold out). You'll get a decent discount compared to presale price. Wide+ probably be good too tho. Wide will prolly be too soft for you (not knowing your weight/height).

Uppers, wides are fine for powder but they’re too soft for any serious free riding stuff, the tails are so soft that it’s easy to banana out on landings. Wide plus may work but they’re still very soft and the tails are heavily rockered which will make them less stable than the uppers

Wides are fun to ride and while I definitely took them on free ride stuff, I’d prefer a different ski.


you gotta really land center and it gets bucked around. Although the softness was really fun on fresh chop, instead of getting bucked I felt like the lightness plus softness of the ski acted liked suspension around bumps
