Pretty fucking crazy. I was planning on going to Hood this spring not realizing that if I buy an Ikon pass for next season I can use it at mammoth all spring... it's too bad I already bought a crib with the homies for a week on hood (someone want my spot? Lol)

Back to Mammoth tho, if I end up going for a bit mid May, what's camping like? Would be my first spring there.

Camping is super chill out on the BLM land to the east of mammoth. Bring a high clearance vehicle as there's a chance you'll have to go deep depending on how busy it is.

Can be tougher to find spots around the popular hot springs, but if you don't care about those then it wont be too hard.


if it is somehow packed and you cant find a pulloff, you can head south closer to the ORG and find lower elevation BLM stuff near bishop.

Bureau of land management. Any BLM land is fair game for dispersed camping, just make sure you pack out what you pack in cause they aren’t serviced with bathrooms, trash cans, etc

I did this with Ikon last year and camped like 10 minutes away from the Mill lot in Inyo Forrest. It’s off the scenic loop somewhere, I could probably find better directions if you need them

It’s nice to have a group, otherwise watch out for bears

Pretty much what most people said, the scenic loop which is a right off the access road to main lodge. You’ll go buy tons or spots directly on road the better ones are further down on side roads. It’s 5-10 to the mill and main lodge. If you want to get away from people head down to 395 and there’s tons of hot springs and campsites all over way off the highway that go ffar out. It’s probably more like 20min. them closing at 2:30 last spring sucked hopefully it’s not the same this year but that may have just been the end of may.
