just post a pic or a story from earlier this season or anything kinda nolstalgic. for me it was my first time at jay after they got dumped back in november. ending the season there this weekend
Tldr: I skied a single day this year and it was a blast.
Last summer, the day I found out my wife was pregnant was also the same day my dad got diagnosed with both severe heart failure and pancreatic cancer. Weird. Kinda sucked because my future 2023 ski season at a time when I was progressing quick af was sucked away, for good reasons of course. Growing up, my dad worked 12-18hr days, 6-7 days a week and we really never had the time or money to ski more than once a year, if even that. With my big boy job I've been able to fund those trips now so the past few years have been nice being able to go on ski trips with him. These diagnoses fucked up a lot of things, and following statistics, he should not have even made it to Thanksgiving, let alone be able to ski this March.
I'm just thankful I was able to ski anywhere this year, especially with my dad and brother, at the place he taught us to ski, Peek n Peak. We weren't trying to be intentionally poetic; it just worked out that way based on timing, logistics, and costs. Probably the last time we will ski together.
Not looking for sympathy- just a heavily nostalgic post.
I hardly ever take videos or pictures while skiing wish I had gotten more this year. was the first season in probably 10 years I felt as strong as I did on my skis again. Had an epic February-April in the pnw seemed like most days ended llike this since I have more pictures of my car covered after a day of riding than anything else. Had another month and a half to go out here too but cut that short over the weekend by doing this
This jump was season defining. My buddy and I carved out this masterpiece. I got to finally throw down a cork 7 on a left side hip, only to follow it up with a flatspin 3.
One week later, I was at Kicking Horse for a Skimo race!
Best Season Yet!
Finally improving this year, couldnt hit this rail early in the year then got it locked at the end of the season. Super fun year of improving in the park, hopefully still some days left!!
-DanHell yeah. Here a bonus pic for you then. We were at that zone for almost a whole week. Really fun.
I said it once about MMATS and I’ll say it again: Oliver’s exposure switch mid shot, either with shutter speed change or change of the camera’s ND filter… to capture the detail of oski sliding the concrete in the super dark shade of the building as well as the landing in the super bright foreground. Absolutely brilliant, dudes’ by far my favorite.
