They were discussing the future of skis materials wise etc. some think nothing will change materials wise because of cost and availability to get into the newer tech.

some thought the opposite

I don’t see how the big power house ski manufacturers wouldn’t be using new tech and materials. They have the budget to burn and access to the newest stuff

The main problem with graphene for the foreseeable future from my understanding is cost to produce. It's really expensive and you would need a lot of it for 1 set of skis. We aren't even using it widespread for CPU's yet which is really where it will make the biggest impact. It's too early to tell for sure but it is an amazing material and I love the idea of what it can do for us. Material science is everything man, shits crazy.

bro, skis cost 300-1000 dollars and don't even always have decent quality base material. even if graphene works better in every way than steel edges (which i don't think is even close to being shown), it doesn't mean you'd ever see it used. don't hold your breath

well graphene is already easier to make than before. i would like to see if graphene can be sharpened like steel

Even when cost to produce becomes reasonable, do you think manufacturers even would? It would eat into sales volumes

no because steel would probably still be useful for most skiers. and even then making durable things is a business model in itself. Most skiers would buy the newest ski each year anyways

where i am its a pretty big amount, also better skis = better rentals = less money spent on replacing rentals
