Switch takeoffs

I’m consistently catching edges on my switch takeoffs on Oblivion 94s. Had them slightly detuned in the tips tails and underfoot but it happens pretty often. Switch skiing just feels weird on them, and yes I can ski switch completely fine. Am I just retarded or is there a possibility somethings wrong?

You might not be center mounted, in the early days, this was a huge dilemma

might just be the vertical edge on the oblivions, maybe adjust ur method accordingly cuz the edge is fat

Youre most likely rotating way too early. Gotta be mad patient on sw takeoffs. Wait till your boots have left the lip. Especially when spinning onto rails

I skied my dad's brand new, freshly tuned QSTs and not gonna lie, they skied switch better than anything else I've ridden. Mostly because of the nice edge! Didn't hit any jumps due to a bum knee, though they'd have been fine probably.

Hijacking this thread, I’ve had problems under rotating and overall feeling uncomfy after taking off switch.

I’ve been able to land them with grabs in both directions but have mostly lost that ability. The vids above are in chronological order. The goals is to get to where I’m spinning switch 5s and grabbing the spins.

I wasn't even trolling I've never detuned my park skis and they feel nice af. I'm pretty sure sharp edges sticking on rails is a myth too, maybe it improves the longevity of the edges and helps them not crack but in terms of actually riding park sharp edges only help

i have a feeling op wasn't center mounted. In the early daze you had to force techs to center them, like make your own marks.... It's common for techs to mount em for normal skiing. With that said, your boots need to flex for switch take off or you will pencil spin , you have to get low and begin to carve, I have seen pros leave only one ski mark on the take off, keep in mind, this is how ice skaters perform triple luxe...
Asparagus, get your spin dialed without a grab, gorilla it out, then worry about adding the flavaflav.

@asparagus you look to me like you mostly just need more speed. If you bring your skis closer together and work on carving off the lip, you'll have an easier time with both speed and smoothness, too.

But for learning switch, it will be easier for ya... I have skis mounted backwards, forward from center...? Lol, I gcarve switch
My touring skis are mounted back and made for the sickest switch stomps, I wish peewee would release the hijacked footy that made cAndide cry.

me before i caught my front edge on a dfd and flew headfirst into ice

lowkey have thought about this a few times. i feel like it's mostly the learning curve of being able to confidently hit rails and just knowing you wont catch an edge

Try not turning on the kicker... so go as you would with a forward take off and don't butter at all. No catch of edge if you're not spinning before you leave the ground.
