THE-Albino*Seems stupid asking newschoolers but Im in between doctors right now and urgent care is pricy. Anyway I landed funky on a cork 5 today, legs gave out on impact and I caught my brakes and rag dolled a bit. My right knee feels week and it gets painful at full extension when I put weight on it and whenever theres twisting involved. Otherwise I can still walk and put pressure on it as long as I'm not at full extension. Is this just a slight sprain or could it be worse? Im relying on the experience of others here so please share anything helpful.
alpinepleaseIn the same thought process, seeing doc Monday. Is it /did it get swollen?
BallZach420Did you hear a pop?
SchoessI had a similar situation with my knee that's still currently somewhat injured a few months later. I have a cousin who is a physical therapist who helped me confirm I should be ok to not go in an pay for an MRI. I would definitely schedule a visit to get it checked out at the very least, and hopefully you can just get some PT and R&R and be ok. My case it's an LCL (outside of my left knee) and I was able to get away with just that. A basic appointment should be pretty cheap, but if they wanna do an MRI, that's where it can get expensive. You gotta have a professional look at it though because they could find things that are cause for concern regarding the future development and long term health of your knee. Meaning if it doesnt heal right, you could be fucked
THE-Albino*Good to know. It seems super minor but my main concern is that it takes along time to heal
timdrachanfrom what you are describing I had the same symptoms in my left knee when I did a misty 5 and landed funny. I went to ER cuz i couldnt fully extend or twist and theyre professional opinion was Rest Ice Compression Elevation, as my meniscus was damaged but not too much. I went to PT for 1 session before they told me I was ok. You are probably ok with the RICE technique but i would get it checked out nontheless as knee injuries are not something to mess around with.
BradFiAusNzCoCaIt’s total bs that the whole system is so expensive but my take - do not skimp on something that will affect you the rest of your life. It is much better to get your knee healthy and get debt than have to deal with potential serious consequences the rest of your life that could have been avoided by going to the doctor.
BallZach420Did you hear a pop?
THE-Albino*No swelling currently
Nope, if I did I’m sure I would’ve had to go to the ER
ReturnToMonkeyI hate the question "did you hear it pop" while doing a ski trick. When I tore my ACL, that's one of the first things everyone asked. No, I heard myself saying "shit" as I realized I wasn't gonna make the landing and then the loud pop of my skis slapping the snow. Now more than a year later, my knee makes all sorts of cracking and popping noises whenever I do anything even if it's fine. Sorry for the rant, but that question just irks me so much now.
If there's no swelling, you might be fine. I'd still get it checked out asap. Also, ER is not the place someone with just a torn knee should go. Go to urgent care or an orthopedic office. Don't waste vital resources and time at the ER.
