Replying to College dilemma

I am going to college next year to study mechanical engineering. But I cant decide between Colorado School of Mines and UVM. Mines is closer to better skiing as it is in Colorado but UVM has a much better skiing culture. So what I'm asking NS is what is it like living and skiing in Colorado compared to the East Coast and if I should choose better skiing or better culture. Also if anyone knows what the social/party scene is like at Mines please comment.
