"Donald Trump’s lawyer says he has been indicted. The case involving payments made during his 2016 presidential campaign to silence claims of an extramarital sexual encounter is the first criminal case against a former U.S. president.

Trump, who has denied any wrongdoing and has attacked the investigation, was expected to surrender to authorities next week, according to a person familiar with the matter who was not authorized to discuss a matter that remained under seal.

The grand jury indictment of Trump, 76, is an extraordinary development after years of investigations into his business, political and personal dealings. It is likely to galvanize critics and embolden supporters."

You do know that when someone is charged with '34 counts' it doesn't mean 34 different crimes right?

Each count represents a separate instance of a violation of the same statute/law... so of course it seems copypasted - because he kept doing the same crime over and over in similar ways.

If you're charged with 4 counts of first-degree murder, it means you intentionally murdered 4 people. You might have killed one with a knife, another with a gunshot, another by throwing them off a 24-story rooftop, and another by choking them with an iPhone charging cable, but it's all still a murder charge.

Some of you guys never even watched a single episode of Law & Order and it shows...

Seems like 34 counts of misdemeanor fraud would be a slam dunk, from what I’m hearing people generally think the felony charge is a stretch. Or at least it’s not clear yet.

I think it becomes more academic the more time goes by. The voters should have known about this prior to the 2016 election, let alone the 2020 election, now it’s likely going to be 2024 before there’s any resolution. Trump is going to be so fucking old before any of the substantial things he’s done wrong come to bear it’s like why even bother.

A District Attorney and everyone else who works in that office would not risk their whole career just to slander a former president. That is not what's happening here - this isn't some poor attempt at political defamation. There's plenty of evidence - at least enough to lay proper allegations, and the court now needs to see out whether it's enough to convict him.

Believe whatever nonsense you want, but thems the rocks.

You know what IS a joke - the american cost of living... and it's not just that inflation has gone up after years of keeping interest rates low as hell, it's that the american way of life - living in a suburb and driving an hour in traffic to the city for work or literally anything is completely antisocial and unsustainable. and the only cities with transit-oriented developments cost far far more than those in crummy cities that are entirely reliant on the 1950s white flight suburb model that exists for a large part due to abject racism.

This recent Texas mifepristone ruling is throwing fuel on the fire that is currently decimating the GOP's positioning among moderates.

If the GOP really was about letting states decide about abortions they wouldn't have tried to have that product banned nationally.
