Old and have family, but not ok with taking it easy.......bruised, or slight tear on meniscus beginning of march. waiting for the return to send in a week or two.

Be you. If that's not sendy it's totally ok. Ski in whatever way makes you happy and gives you the feeling of freedom. But be you, everyone else is already taken.

don't push your knee if you think you tore something. It's not worth it at all. There will always be next year. Take the summer and fall to get healed and strong

I'm 28, have a mortgage, wife and a career (no kids) but I still want to push myself and see what I can do. I work from home at the computer so if I snap both my legs off, I can still put Mcdonalds on the table. I really enjoy just ripping turns and chillin a lot as well (all im doin rn cause I hurt my knee) but I've been tramp seshing regularly before I got hurt to learn some new corks and try to translate that to some fun jumps. Next season I should be good to go on that hopefully.

I'm also mostly motivated by my newfound love of the rest of the mountain, midwest kid transplanted into the great American rockies for the first time. It's super fun skiing steep and rowdy shit to see what I can do

Yes, love park and park skiing but I just gotta be realistic about my body's limits.

The best part of freeskiing/freeride is that you're free to do whatever tf you want. As I got older I want to send harder and take it more seriously but I'm sure eventually I will want (or be forced to) calm down a little. I def have days though where I just want to chill and take some laps with my gf/friends/family and not push myself though

good advice... Ive had this knee reconstructed twice. gonna be avoiding impact, ski mountaineering is going to be the spring for me.

I think its a catch 22. If you have kids and have this fear of getting hurt, just think more methodical like not hitting a 20 ft cliff on hardpack and instead wait for the pow to come. Maybe stick to some park features once the snow turns to slush in the spring. Just because you gain a family doesnt mean life should slow down in your free time and if you get your kids hooked on skiing and outdoor activities, then your golden to go back and do what you did before and even have your own kids push you. No need to slow down but change your approach and think a bit more about how things may feel on an ailing/aging body. It is just a mindset.

I’m less likely to just send it with careless abandon. But I am more in tune with my abilities and more confident than ever so I will hit some stuff I wouldn’t touch in my younger years.

My decision making has definitely changed over the years. I have to draw for my profession, and I remember literally the first day I skied after graduating college thinking, "Oh shit. If I break my arm I can't work. That's kind of a scary thought." At 36 my mindset is definitely not the same as it was at 26, which wasn't the same as it was at 16, but that's not to say I particularly care to "take it easy," either.

My goal is always to maximize fun, and while hucking it indiscriminately is definitely fun...things like slipped discs, bone chips, and broken ribs are not. It's a constant mental battle, and I find myself being overly cautious more often than I would like. At the end of the day, though, I'm still at a point where if I'm not at least a little scared for my safety I feel like I'm not riding hard enough.

The good life! Touring up to the unlocked lift station at night and getting those pre lift pow turns every morning, on the way to free continental breakfast and wifi at Vails mega base resort hotel. Hot up the hot tubs with fresh am water right before taking laps on the epic pass I printed for myself. Shit , tonight the penthouse guests leave for the rest of the season, and I've got that code too. I wonder what a night for the family costs?

I mean, they still gotta approve your application and you still gotta pay the monthly premiums. Once you get out of the contestability period (e.g. 2 years), depending on your policy, they can't do shit. Funny joke tho but also life insurance payouts are tax free too
