so today i had a mishap with my vishnus. i was riding through the park and decided to do a nose butter like i normally do off this little 2 foot drop kind of thing. when i got to 180 and the most of my body weight was on the tips of my skis i heard a cracking sound. i didnt think much of it until i got on the chair and noticed that the top sheet was sort of bubbled up in a weird way. sure as shit when i get to the top of the mountain i take my ski off and it has the fucking shape of a surface outsider. im kinda upset with the durability, they only have about 40 days on them and i dont ski super hard and they have already cracked. what should i do about it? should i just go with a different brand or see if i can get a replacement set?

its not the worst crack ever and i can still ski on them but it does make it a little more sketchy

sorry that happened. In general though, if you have issues with a product I would just reach out privately. Posting about your problems with a product gives off the impression that you want to dissuade people from buying that product. I'm not against people drawing attention to poor quality products (in fact I'd encourage it) but to me it looks like it might just be a defective pair, which seems to occur with all ski companies from time to time.

I think he would've preferred that you contacted him prior to posting but yeah. Can't speak for him but, based on responses I've seen, it seems like he's willing to be reasonable about any issues that people might have with their skis.

Do you actually have a side by side ski comparison from both the top and side angles? That picture of your skiing is about as useless as your hoodie is to style

To me it looks like it's only the topsheet that's damaged, and the actual ski is intact but I can't really tell from the photo

It looks like something weird happened, I’ve never seen something like that before where there is no damage on the bottom, but the top sheet somehow crumpled? No clue what would have caused that besides maybe the glue or press or whatever was off a bit bc it looks as if only the top sheet crumpled and the rest of the sidewall and base looks fine.
I responded to this kid's email and am going to send him a ski as I have done countless times in 99% of situations where it was warranted. In general, I go out of my way to provide warranties in situations where MOST companies wouldn't even answer the message, I promise.
Last season I had a small amount of skis have issues with binding tear out. Because I am always trying to improve the product, I increased the thickness of the material in the underfoot section of the ski. This fixed the tear out issue, but the change in thickness underfoot created a hinge point in a small amount of skis this season which led to issues like this.
I have worked out a shape for the material underfoot within the ski (known as the mounting plate or binding plate) to have a semi circular shape on the end rather than a rectangular shape. This should disperse the force exerted on the bending ski more evenly, eliminating the hinge point and this issue.
Customer satisfaction is crucially important to me. There was one notable instance, referenced in a post above, where someone messaged me on my personal insta to tell me they broke their ski and I was, admittedly, standoffish and rude to them. That was a mistake that I apologized for and I sent him a replacement ski to make things right.
+karma for excellant post. Most kids snap the ski, rant on TGR and NS about shitty customer service of a brand. Then, when the company replaces the product, the person goes silent and everyone berates the brand. Even when everyone is happy; brand lose.
For binding tear solution, have you considered a fiberglass/metallic mesh inbedded in the mounting zone? Something that will act like a T-nut once a screw is driven through the material. It will help with lowering the thickness
Emmet said I had a defective pair and if I would have reached out he would have sent me new pair but I didn't think to because most companies don't care for example 1000s skis blew on me in like 17 days and the best they could do is 15% off on a new pair but Emmett is so nice this guy actually cares so yeah reach out privately and see.

If your topsheet looks like that there is a good chance there is damage to the core. Sidewalls are pretty flexible so they don't show the damage.

Make em pay shipping or something. Don’t reward kids who publicly call out companies prior to inquiring with them first. Warranty process should not start in a NS thread.
would have been a way sicker thread if OP said i got a new set because my skis broke for X problem and the company acknowledges the problem and has a fix for future sets (which you outlined you do which is fuckin rad.)
Mangos will never do this to you, yeah they cost more but that's because they use the best materials, best glue and have great quality control. Having skis fail under flex is scary to me because that is likely the time when you need them most mostm

Yeah people are way to quick to publicly slander if they have a defective product every company has a bad batch at some point it doesn’t mean the whole company is shit

When a ski snaps it’s not like all of the different materials all have catastrophic failures. The sidewalls, base, and edge still flex like they normally do so there wont be any cracking to see. Internally, the core is probably broken and the fiberglass is definitely snapped. Top sheets are less durable to aggressive bends so they crack too

I've seen plenty of skis on here snapped obviously through so your first sentence isn't always true
I've skied my Keys maybe 15 days at sugarbush parks and love them but do have at least 12 edge cracks depite a solid detune. At the same time I've heard storys if Vishnu's going a year or two with no cracking or significant damage. Seems to be quite a bit of variety when it comes to durability. Glad he's helping you out, definitely better customer service than most.
