Replying to Revisiting ON3P 3 in 2023
I'm currently down with my 12th concussion and I've been using my free time to revisit some old ski bits. Today I popped on to the ON3P youtube and decided to hit play on ON3P 3. At the time I first watched it back in 2018 I didn't remember being wowed by it but jumping back in 2023 was eye opening. What a fucking masterpiece.
The riders:
I was never keen on the new wave meme but man does this movie have some big dogs in it. Siver has long been my favorite skier and this movie totally reminded me why. Magnus had bangers. LSM had bangers. Mango was a stud. Ian king was awesome but most importantly they were all fun to watch. The hands and track pants were goofy but they were iconic. They were fresh. It was something to really think about.
The cinematography:
Absolutely brilliant. The whole movie had a style and a vibe and it stuck to it. The shots were beautiful. The backdrops were beautiful. The b-roll was fun and really showed you the chemistry and comradery. The music wasn't my taste per say but I was totally okay with that because it fit the vibe and it had energy.
The skis:
This is a bit goofy but the ON3P lineup from 2019 had some absolutely classic topsheets and skis. The kartels and the magnus's were so dope. The customs were basically just solid colors. It was so cool to see those again.
I'd recommend checking it out again even if those riders aren't your cup of tea. It really was a moment in history that even just 4 and half years removed feels like a different generation of skiing entirely. Most of the riders have moved on to other things or been cut from the team but its so cool to look back and see the chemistry those guys had. Love it or hate it they changed the sport we know today in a huge way and ON3P 3 is like a time capsule of an revolutionary time in freeskiing
