me and the boys want to go to mount hood this summer. what is your suggestion for the cheapest possible way to do it? our current plan is drive there, camp somewhere nearby, and ski timberline a couple days. We are just in the beginning of our planning process. any suggestions for camp sites? and is timberline the move?
Get there before the 1st of June, and you can buy a spring pass to meadows or tline for around 250 bucks. Meadows has as good of a park and much better non-park terrain, but tline has a lot stronger park scene than meadows.
There’s plenty of good (free) dispersed camping near tline and meadows. Be sure to pick up your trash and leave a clean camp so it stays that way.

2 things. Yes can be done cheap ish. Lift tickets are like 110 to tline i think. Gonna sneak into the tow parks. Maybe they'll sort that shit out better this year.
Also, huge snow year a lot of places. Some mtns are going to be open into August likely.
So factor that in. Lots of good camping around hood for sure. Spring passes as mentioned are a solid deal. But a few days in the summer also sick. The later in the summer the more you're walking back to mile riding public park, sometimes less features.

Cheapest possible would be to get a job there and stick around for some time. Timberline is going to be your only option for skiing, meadows closes at the end of april this year. Summer tickets are going to run you around $130 if you want to get into the ftc park, which gets set up probably mid/late june. As far as camping, anywhere in the Mt Hood national forest is free and legal. Trillium lake airstrip, road 39, and E Lolo pass rd are popular spots. Summer is fun, weather can be pretty tricky sometimes but if you come after the 4th of July it’s usually pretty nice. If you can swing it, spring is cheaper and more of a party
You will want to ski in May at least 1.5 weeks as soon as June 1 hits you have to buy the full timberline pass thats over $1000 but in March, April, May you can get the $250 "Spring Pass" to Timberline and that is essentially the only place and time period to ski for super super cheap and yes you can camp all around base area starting around Govy anywhere up to like 35 min+ plus out if you want to be more secluded.

Sometimes packing camp food is the best idea, sometimes not.
Gas station fried foods and university cafeterias tend to be very inexpensive.
Avoid the urge to go bar hopping in Portland. That city is like a fortress, and there is no getting in or out without spending all your money.
Parking your car overnight in portland is a gamble these days as well. Chevron slaps for shitty cheap food to keep you alive. Tline has one of the weirdest setups for food ive ever seen in a base lodge.
You can also hike and build jumps for free right out of the parking lot. There are generally multiple crews out building on a nice day and classic spots with easy access. Its a vibe. I’ve seen the Faction Crew, JF Houle, Sean Fitzsimons, etc. building jumps within eye sight of my friends and I. Its pretty cool to hang out and build in the sun while getting to watch a show at the same time. I don’t get why more people don’t do this as an alternative to buying a pass. Something to consider for a day or two anyway if you want to save some money.
Just avoid Portland once you get to Govy. No need to leave chevron has all the food you need. And Charlie’s has all the booze ya need. I like whoever said to pick up your trash. Because last spring you bums seemed to have left a lot behind -_-
