My Vishnus are on life support

I know I already made a thread about this but it’s getting exponentially worse. I contacted emmet and he generously sent me a new ski as warranty, but the problem is It was only sent one ski (most likely because I told him that only one of my skis was damaged at the time), but both my skis are destroyed at this point. I’m most likely going to just buy a new pair of Vishnus next season but in the mean time how do I preserve these and how can I prevent this from happening again in the future?

I counted 14 edge cracks across both skis
2 core shots, one of them being pretty big
edge peeling off at tip
multiple edge dents
top sheet damage is fine idrc

(All of this over the span of around 16 days skiing)

Little epoxy in the right places and they’re good to go, they’re not really on life support till the edges start falling out of the ski

It’s all part of the process of hitting rails/jibbing. I think it’s pretty fun taking the skis into the garage and fixing them up. Little epoxy and p Tex goes a long ways. Best of luck, soldier

you’ve just gotta change your idea of what broken is. Those joints you have work plenty fine and will for a while more with some maintenance. They are breaking. All skis do when you spend time hitting rails. They are not broken tho. Not yet.

you can get those core shots filled. You can get that peeling edge in the tip cut and bent in so it doesn’t keep ripping out. The edge cracks underfoot maybe would have been less intense with a more thorough detune, if you didn’t do that. They will not be an issue really until the metal starts falling out and water get in there. Even then you and rip em still until it’s fucked up water logged or your screws pull out from the rot.

get a soldering iron and some of thise flat ptex sticks. ive gotten like 3 deep, see the edge type, coreshots on my wides the past 3-4 weeks and it's saved my ass. costs like $60 and it's a life saver

You think that’s bad. These are 2022/2023 skis and Emmet didn’t even warranty this. I just epoxied it and kept skiing

I dont see any warranty cases, just abused skis. Allthought my beated rail/urban skis are in better condition, wouldn’t use them on the slope anymore.

I never asked for a warranty. Like I said, I made a thread about this before and the people of Newschoolers told me to ask emmet what I should do. I told him the problem and asked for advice and he immediately offered to send a ski in warranty.

you might have to epoxy the bases to prevent them from rotting but besides that those skis are in very good condition

And neither were these from a few years ago. Planks still had plenty of life. Never broke on me.


your skis aren’t on life support until they don’t slide on snow anymore.

Yeah those still have another season in em. They're just at the point now where you don't have to care about them getting beat up.

P-tex the core shot, file down any pieces of edge sticking out, wax them and go.

To prevent this type of stuff, detune edges and keep the bases waxed, that should make some difference.

But honestly at a certain point its worth taking the time to learn to fix stuff with epoxy and a file. Maybe other skis would last somewhat longer, but my bet is you'll wreck any ski you buy eventually. Always clean and sand/wire brush anything you epoxy, let it cure fully, and develop some finesse with a file and you can fix way more than you'd expect

Oh also make sure to fix delams/edge pullouts quickly before they propagate, and be very careful with were water can get into and freeze. Those two turn small problems into big problems fast

I’ve never had damage like this before and since my old thread it’s gotten worse and there are new problems that I dont know how to fix. I used a total of around .5 brain cells to come up with the idea that making another thread on the top skiing chat site would probably be a good idea to find tips/help on my problem. Hopefully that helps you a little.

Everyone who rides rails should own an angle grinder or bare minimum a file, and file the absolute piss out of your edges under foot til they’re round. My old vishnus with heavy detunes would go a whole season picking up only a few edge cracks. Don’t be afraid of the detune, ya maybe it doesn’t feel right taking edge off of a new ski but trust it’s your best friend.
