Backslapping doesn't cout

Backslapped landings don't count. It's setting the bar too low if you can huck your meat of a 60ft cliff just to explode on impact but technically carry momentum and ride out. Backslapping is more of a Jamie Pierre / Julian Carr ski stunt but, I do not count it as a landed ski "trick".

it’s kinda cool to see someone send a fatty cliff to backslap bomb hole once or twice but when it’s pretty much all you do (cough cough owen leeps) it’s not that entertaining

It’s not what the goal is, but it still “counts” in my eyes. Sure stomping it feels better but backslaps better than a yard sale.

Although I’d go back to a spot if i backslapped it

This doesn’t account for the fact that some drops physically require backslap and aren’t for the weak willed

Depends on the cliff and how egregious the backslap. They're like a Baker maker where you did land it but you don't want that in your footage. It counts but minus gnar points. For it to count though you got be able to carry speed out of it

Owen has landed endless strait airs, backflips and flat 3's off cliffs. Some 30-40+ feet. He's also landed double flat's a while back.

What a lot of people don't understand is unless you have a very rare cliff with a steep landing (Alaska, Bec des Rosses, etc...) and deep snow with stable conditions, it's very hard to land a 40+ foot cliff on your feet without causing serious injury.

Some people find it way more fun to jump off a 80+ foot cliff and not land, then to stomp a 20 foot cliff. It's simply personal preference. It's very similar to people who cliff dive into water. They get a bigger buzz and are way more stoked when they jump off higher cliffs and beat the personal record.

Yeah your not wrong on any of that but would you be counting all of Owens backslaps as stomps ? They’re ok to see once or twice but when every other clip is a backslap it’s a bit lame.

They count but you lose a lot of points. If you think you might slap, consider some aggressive pole whacking, peeing mid line, and giving your mom a call to help offset the deficit.

No, the backslaps off 50+ cliffs aren't counted as stomps. But he's stomped endless 40 foot and under cliffs. Maybe bigger but I can't remember.

The thing is not many people stomp "proper" 40+ foot cliffs. You have rare exceptions like Logan Pehota's recent big stomp, and some old Sean Pettit and Hugo Harrison cliffs (mostly in Alaska) which were all super impressive. But physically it's impossible to stomp the 80+ foot cliffs that guys like Owen are doing. If you actually tried you would end up in hospital and probably never be able to ski again. They just do it for fun.

Personally I love jumps but am not too fussed on rails. In saying that I'm super stoked and happy seeing a friend do a good rail trick and get a buzz out of it. I would never knock them just because I don't care much for rails. For anyone who thinks jumping off a 50+ cliff and not stomping it is lame, I suggest they try it just once. I guarantee they will change their mind, or at least their opinion.
