What are some of the best hiking boots you have had?

iFlipSalomon 4D 2 GTX were the best. The 4D 3 GTX weren't quite as good but still solid. Now there is the 4D 4 GTX and I haven't tried them yet but they look like a step down.
Most people who want hiking boots would be much better served with a quality trail runner. If you're going to be on trails, a trail runner will be lighter, faster, and overall a much better choice in footwear. I use hiking boots only for off-trail forays where the footing is loose and I need ankle support, or if there is snow on the ground. Almost all of my long distance backpacking has been done in trail runners.
If you can elaborate a bit on what your intended usage is I may be able to help a bit more. I've hiked/backpacked thousands upon thousands of miles and also done some fairly serious ultra running.
