Breaking in liners vs getting them molded

So I just got a pair of k2 method pros. At first the liners were super tight and pretty uncomfortable but after a day of skiing the liners have broken in a good amount and conformed to me feet somewhat. Originally I planned on getting the liners molded to my feet but after today I really don’t understand what the difference between getting my boots molded and just allowing them to break in over time is. This is probably a kinda dumb question

depends on the liner. A lot of higher end liners these days have thermo formable elements to improve fit and retention that you can't break in that actually require heat. So depending on the boot you are in there is a possibility that just because they are comfy does not necessarily mean they are optimally molded for performance.

Those boots got intuition wraps. I'd recommend hitting a shop for those. Personally I've learned to throw them in a shell oven for 10min with elastics around the tops so they don't flare open. The superbake makes them crazy moldable.

When you bake a liner like an Intuition, the foam expands quite a bit and will consequently be able to squeeze into every nook and cranny of your foot and boot. Any extra, empty space you had pre-molding will get filled up with the expanded liner. When you only rely on riding the liner to mold it, though, you're not producing enough heat to expand the foam much, if at all. You'll still get some custom "molding" in the areas where you're compressing the foam, but none of those empty spaces will get filled up. You'd be surprised how much more precisely everything fits with a properly molded liner.
Side note: After going through the molding process a few times in shops over the years, I've become perfectly comfortable doing it at home in my regular over. It's a bit more finicky, and you can absolutely ruin your liners if you do it wrong, but it's not all that hard once you've done it a few times.
