Early January I cracked a pair of Chronics and decided to switch to something more durable and jibby. Got the V Wet +’s in 189 (I’m 6’2). So much fun, super sick on rails and smaller features, can’t complain at all.

I see myself wanting to progress more and more in “traditional” park skiing, going for bigger jump tricks, stomping bigger landings, etc., and the Wet +’s feel a little unsafe/uninspiring when on big features.

I’m confused as what I should do—should I stick it out with the V’s and just get more and more comfortable with them, sell them, or is there another option? Is there some type of return/exchange policy Emmett offers? I also have a brand new pair of Head Oblivion 94’s which are honestly becoming more and more of a ski that coincides with the style and tricks I want to and am progressing towards.

Let me know what I should do, and just because it’s a question that seems to maybe be asked a lot, don’t give me shit, and maybe consider helping me out.

My 2 cents would be to ski the oblivions if that’s what seems to suit you better and save the Vs for early season next year before the big stuff is built yet maybe. I like to keep skis I like and sell the ones I don’t, and seems like you like the Vs a little bit still

Just keep both bring 'em out for different conditions. Early season you might not have a decent jump line? Or learn urban?

It's ok to buy and sell skis. The make a wide variety for a reason, it's not one size fits all except for 189.

Attacks (blue and then get yourself a blue dope snow jacket and dial your switch backflips) but also there have been some pretty good deals on pivots being < 200 these days

tyrolia attacks (12 or up; don't get 11s they're kids' bindings) you can find for cheap and they're solid

Attacks are solid and I usually throw them on if I can’t find any cheap pivots, same with STHs.

Marketplace will have great deals

get something stiffer next time around, but u should be able to hit big features on those. not as ideal as a stiffer ski sure, but it shouldnt stop u from progressing

Don’t be afraid to get hate for not liking what’s trendy. It’s completely understandable to ski a less popular ski if you like how it feels.

in the end it’s your skiing not everyone else’s.


I did the same thing a few years ago, I got everything that was trendy (Vishnu, On3p, etc) but ended up liking stiffer less rockered skis. I’m a bigger guy like you as well too, I feel way more stable on shit that’s not rockered to oblivion and “loose”

I've been scouting around for deals on attacks with a 95mm brake but haven't come up with anything great. Are you in the US?

you put a lot of trust in ur ski bindings, i wouldn't cheap out to much on that part of the rig.

Yea you're not gonna be able to exchange or return skis you've already used just because you don't like them. If you end up selling them though I'm sure you'll have no issues, especially with V's

Thanks for the link I've never heard of that shop before. Website is pretty crap but some decent deals and yes looks like they're located in Tahoe.

I'm hoping for attacks around $120 or maybe STH or Strive?maybe around $150. Corbetts has attack 13 just over $100 USD but only with 110 or larger brakes. I don't have to mount up the skis any time soon so I can be patient. It does seem like deals are dropping early this year though.

Oblivions for traditional park skiing. Wets for bopping. If you find yourself not bopping, there is always a demand for 2nd hand wets in decent condition

Can someone explain to me why wets are scary on big features. I am 6'2'' 150 lbs and I have hit 30 ft high rainbow rails and spun on 40 ft jumps (These are big features right?) and never felt like they would have been easier on a more traditional park ski. The only time my wets are scary is skiing to the park over ice or crud just because they are so noodly.

You have to land bolts and many don’t land bolts. They tend to throw some weight to the heels and through the tail. Also, even if you land bolts, it’s still easier to use the tail to support yourself to stand back up on a stronger tail after you’ve taken the impact

damn it's been ages since i've seen a massive rainbow rail, those used to be so popular

but yeah what people are referring to is that they're very soft so they're not best suited for staying up on big rough landings, easier to wash out. but like anything it gets repeated a lot until people are just hearing "vishnu bad on jumps" when they're totally fine for the jumps most normal people hit. if you're hitting serious big boy jumps yeah great get something stiffer but otherwise you're totally fine

Wet Plus has been fine on jumps tbh. My first pair is 3 seasons old and getting to the point where off axis spins can be a lil sketch if you land back seat but no park ski has lasted that long for me anyway. My second pair is on its second season and really no complaints. Never feel like I'm gonna wash out in a tail press. At this point every "traditional" park ski feels dull and lifeless. Key seems like a good option tho. Might get a pair of those next year.
