Armada warranty

Feedback and second opinion wanted.

Long story short:
Bought Armada 116 JJ UL in December 2022.
At the moment, skiing in Japan for the first time with the skis.

Was doing a a tailpress thru the soft snow and somehow right ski edge cut into left ski base and huge peace come off the ski, almost like 1/4 of the nose base.

I know, that there aren’t any edge on the tail or tip, but shouldn’t the ski layers be that weak?
Their glued and stuff, but from what I can see inside, seems like the layers are not connected at all to each other.


Armada warranty says, and customer service said, that any damage on the base is not going to be covered.

I feel that the quality of the ski is way too weak for a 800$ ski.

As a long time customer, I feel that I should get a new pair or atleast 1 new ski.

Does anyone else have had similar problem? I know that Atomic Bentchetlers also don’t have edges on the tip and tail.

Looks like you snagged on something good. I smell some west System g flex epoxy in your near future.

Dang thats a pretty decent gouge. Thats super lame that even happened and that they wont warranty it. Gl trying to repair those

That's wild. good news is you can probably trim and epoxy that and it should still ski good, being part of the ski that doesn't typically touch hard snow.

Sucks Armada isn't warrantying that though. I have loved armada skis for a long time, but tbh their durability usually isn't all that

yeah assuming OP is being honest (i choose to believe) then it's just a shitty situation cause i can kind of understand the company looking at that and assuming he actually hit something. if the story is true, though, that's pathetic quality for an expensive ski (or a defect? idk)

the good news i think is that that part of the ski basically never even touches hard snow so if you can do a big epoxy operation i think you might be functionally okay?

yeah i hate to make big generalizations when i'm not sure but i feel like armada quality has gone down a little. but i'm also biased by my intense butthurt at them for using cheaper slower bases these days (even on some premium skis)

Base to base can be welded with p tex if you know what you're doing. Epoxy exposed glass.

its not nearly as durable as other wood. it probably doesn't have much to do with it but i've seen this kind of thing on a couple other karuba skis and just sort of have a dislike of its use in skis

Fair enough.
That damage is fucked but I think it was just bad luck. If the strike was a little higher on the ski it might have dinged the sidewall but probably wouldn't have peeled the base like a fucking banana. If it was a full wrap edge...may have helped but hard to say.

Yeah no I was more just staring my dislike for karuba, probably has very little/nothing to do with it tbh

You can def repair that but I think it's reasonable to ask Armada to help you cover the cost of a professional repair. I have some older JJ 116s, same shape. They have for sure taken some hits and they are battered but nothing like that has happened.

I’m being honest. It’s not that I can’t afford new skis or a repair, it’s just the fact that Armadas quality is not the same anymore.

Also all the podcasts with the pros who are saying that “armada family” is exactly what they were looking for. For example Quinn and Max Moffat.

I’m sure it Tanner or someone from the beginning would know how straight forward their customer support is, they wouldn’t been that happy.

Anyways, I can’t make a difference, besides the fact and will buy other brand skis.

Luckyly I can still ski, just that when I will
sell them for used skis, the value will be really small for a used skis.

I assume, if the ski would have full length or edges on them, It would have helped.
I just think that the tip of the ski is very easy to brake with contact almost everything. I feel that I need more durability from ski!

Already tried that, and the answer was same.
The warranty will not cover anything if there’s something wrong with the ski base.
