Car for skiing trips

So it’s good if you’re somewhere where you’re not doing many highway miles. Otherwise, I might suggest something more settled like an outback.

muffMan.BOF for sure. You could find a mint mid-2000 Land Cruiser for that budget. Shit will be the most reliable thing ever if it’s got the 4.7L v8.

Nissan xterras are nice too, same with 4Runners of course. You could get a tundra as well my 02 is a beast.

Or just get a 6” lift for a crv, 10-20k is a nice price range

AbarskiI just drove my 2013 crosstrek 1000 miles across I-90 and only used 2 and a half bottles of 0W-20… also the boxer engine is slow as fuck. Otherwise, great car would recommend. I would second the doors feeling cheap.

MaimHelpThe 2006-12 Toyota rav4s with the v6 are tanks, zippy(good for highway situations or sketchy corners etc), bas decent gas mileage around 20-25, and a shitton of space.

I’ve camped with it, took weekend long ski trips. Etc

im sad mine is getting old but with some maintenance these mfs last forever

gorpfiendI am planning on getting a car next college semester so I can get out as much as I can. I want something AWD, pretty rugged, super reliable, spacious, and not hideous/uncomfortable with good gas mileage. I know CRVs, a lot of Subarus, and other Japanese brands are great choices, but does anyone have experience with a certain car that they’d recommend for a new buyer that wants his car to last for eternity?

I plan on also being able to camp in the car sometimes if necessary, throw some cool fat tires and some “offroady” mods on it.

IsaacNW823rd gen (1996-2002) Toyota 4runner is definitely worth consideration IMO. I have one with a small lift and some bigger tires and it is a beast off road. P.S. though- start wheeling any vehicle hard off road, and reliability takes a big hit

Pros:
-4wd
-sold with an optional manual
-toyota reliability
-parts are fairly inexpensive and easy to find
-good balance of spacious without being ridiculously big
-good offroad stock, very capable with 33's, lockers and rock sliders

Cons:
-pretty slow
-only gets ~18mpg or so
-toyota tax, might be hard to find a fairly priced one
-toyotas of this era are somewhat more rust prone

r00kieAs someone who just bought an older Toyota, it's a little over hyped. At least I'm feeling that. The list of items to work on is pretty long. Yeah, it runs and drives but to keep it from being totally clapped out and jank is draining my time and wallet a lot. Still have to watch out big items like timing belts and this era Toyota eats ball joints for breakfast.
