IdX - An Introduction

Made an app that we feel like the freeski community deserves. You can search, view and tag/upload any trick in the universe. Also you can find spots, create your crew, enter events and more. Peep this vid we made and here is our site: https://idx.style with links to our iOS, Android, and Web App.

Our three goals with idX are pretty simple. The first is to help your progression by giving you an app to look up any trick that’s searchable by any feature, it's name, skier, and other tags. We also want to identify the unknown that’s up and coming from around the world so that you can make a career starting in your own backyard (whether it’s in the Midwest, Sweden, PC, or anywhere else) and don’t have to adhere to some click bait algorithm or don’t have the resources to go around from competition to competition across the country. Finally, we want to grow freeskiing and snowboarding film and competition viewership (but let’s be honest - ski edits + films go 10x harder). We love skiing and snowboarding and feel like there should be a modern app to help people achieve their goals while growing the sport. Enjoy and messages and comments are always open for feedback, thoughts, reaching out, or anything else. Appreciate the NS community and figured would let people on here know what we've been up to.

Hahaha, thanks! So the backend is Python and then the front end is React. Then we have some tech to port that over to iOS and Android and make modifications there in Java or Swift. I grew up in St. Louis but went to High Cascade + snowboarded at Targhee. Went to college and then was a software engineer for 3 years but got funding from my school to quit my job and pursue this full time for a year and see what could happen. Been hardcore developing on this for about 6 months with some friends who are helping because they love skiing too (@steezepolice + @cindy on idX)

Sick man, ill give this a download after work.

Been loving react too I’m doing a online class at full stack which has been incredible. Working on the side a ski share thing to buy and sell used ski stuff.

This is really nice looking though

Pretty sure slvsh tried something like this years ago. Anyone remember what that was called? I had the app for awhile but completely forgot about it until now

slapp it was. It was basically a skiing ig... I haven't downloaded this new platform yet to see the differences but slapp was ahead of its time

Yeah I had no clue about slapp until last August when I came across a random slvsh video and saw a link to an app that hadn't been around for a few years. This was after I had spent like a year developing and labeling a searchable trick index for skiing and was well on the way to developing what's live right now. Our goal was to include things that help you on the mountain or your career which is why we added events, crews, and maps. We also included snowboarding but that's because we figured someone skiing could learn how many speed checks or line someone took for a jump. At it's core, idX will always be based on the trick that someone lands or tries augmented with their style because that's what we care/think about when hitting a jump or a rail. I think that helps so much for people to progress, get noticed, get out on the mountain, and more versus things like ig or fucking tiktok

RusteezeBro, this is like…exactly what I need this is sick


man that makes me super happy to hear, moved out to SLC for a year to do this and then we've talked with hundreds of people from all diff skill levels just to get an idea of what people might want/need. Figured I would get this out before all the snow disappears on the east coast. We got a few partnerships in the works and a discord to keep everyone updated because there are some bugs. Right now it's just me full time but we got a few awesome people helping out so that we can grow it in the summer.

Ty, and I think this invite should work - it has the gg's at the end: https://discord.gg/u6VhZ6hMVE. Something we made was crews which we think will help get crews noticed but also get more people on board as you can add people (filmers + skiers) to your crew to view clips. Hopefully down the line, this will create more funding for ski edits + movies wherever or at least get up and comers into film parts

I get your concerns, at the end of the day we're true fans of skiing, been working on this for 2+ years, and we're working with people in the industry to make sure that it does not end up like ig. Most importantly, we're working with users to improve the app consistently and reflect what people are doing on the mountain or in the streets, in the purest form possible, the tricks.

At the end of the day, we built this for the community (whether you're in a hotspot or not), the next generation, progression, and to grow the sport. Always looking for feedback and ideas on how we can make idX better.

If you want a shirt, DM me and we'll get you hooked up for a completely reasonable price, but we made this post on idX. We'd rather you enter into the events versus purchasing something from us.
