Adult ski for junior

snowpigLooking for advice on ski length. My son is 13 and needs a 155+ ski , but is also quite lightweight yet. Not many junior ski options at that length in Europe - Faction Prodigy, Line Ruckus and that's about it. He has the ruckus now and the Prodigy is sold out atm, so he is also looking at some adult skis that come in shorter sizes - TWP comes in 157 i.e.

So would the TWP 157 be pretty much the same as a 155 Prodigy Jr in terms of swing weight, flex etc.? They seem to be similar on paper? Also how would you size the TWP, body height or less? Makes me wonder why it only goes up to 178...

I don’t want to be that guy but I STRONGLY recommend to steer away from the TWPs. They are a very good ski in terms of pop and flex, however their durability is very poor. If you have money to burn, you can get them but just know you’re paying $500 USD for a pair of skis that are only going to last one season. The prodigys would not be a bad option especially if he is getting into park. My personal recommendation would to be to go with the factions but it is ultimately up to you and your son. Tell him to not worry about the look of the ski (if he likes the twps more) because you can always paint them or put on a design afterwards.

Get him some 189 wets

Found the old Candide 1 Jr which seems identical, but the topsheet is hideous so he didn't consider them... Anyone has any experience with them?

I have heard about the durability issues, but I have heard it for the Factions as well. My younger daughter has the Prodigy 0.5 jr - great ski but I am not impressed with the quality. I guess with freestyle skis that are put through a lot of abuse there is always the risk that they will fail quickly with any brand (at least among the mass brands). TWPs are on sale atm so price is like $350.

$350 inst actually that bad, if you want to it would probably not be a bad investment. Candides suffer from simmilar durability issues like the TWPs, but you also probably have to buy them used. If you need skis quickly then the TWPs at $350 isnt bad.

honestly 177 vishnu wets might be the move. soft flex ski that's easy to maneuver would fair really well I think

alternatively 169 Keys would be a good move as well

I don't know if it's a joke, but Vishnus don't come in junior sizes... Also no retailers in Europe so huge importing costs.

ARV84 also seems to be sold out atm (seems to be a trend to produce less and sell out early...), but it's also a very stiff ski as far I know and he wants to get something more playful. Otherwise we could just get the Line Ruckus again in 155, cheap and easily available, but also too stiff/cambered.

BTW honey badger comes in shorter lengths as well, I know nothing about it though, except that it is probably even less durable than the TWP?

I had Line honey badgers when I was about as tall as your son. They held up surprisingly good. Super light and flexy ski. Not sure if they have changed the structure over the years tho.

how tall is he, and what type of skis is he looking for, stiff, soft. jumps rails, pow?
Surface skis makes some skis size 152 in junior skis, or adult skis in 164
Black crows captis birdie in size 157 are what i used a few years ago, and are like the mens ones, but just softer
icelantics junior skis are pretty good, but pricey, but higher priced skis will last way longest than the cheap ones, and if he out grows them, sell them or keep them as back ups, which has saved me a few times when my new skis break
