Why was January so abnormally warm for Montana

I remember seeing something about how Montana was supposed to have 150% above average snow pack, but in the month of January I was getting rain instead of snow.

Yes it was yesterday, but during the first week of January up to about last week was weirdly warm

Montana (and many other areas in the US) have always had january thaws, I remember it being in the 50s one winter in january in montana, and it was -40 two weeks later.

is it worse now cause of climate change? maybe.

OP im guessing you read the current snowpack was 150%, but then it didnt snow for 6 + weeks.

Snow pack percentages are all relative to what is expected on whatever date the measurement is taken, not predictive of the future or of season as a whole. So like @eheath said you can have a snow pack that's 150% of normal on say Jan 1, but if it doesn't continue snowing at that 150% of normal rate by Feb 1 you'll have a very different number.

a warm spell in january is its completely normal, climate change might make it worse but 1 week of warm weather is just climate cycles.

while all of theses are signs of climate change, it doesn't have much to do with short term weather anomalies.
