East coast park/all mtn twig recs + quiver thoughts

Currently rocking the reckoner 102s which I do love in terms of a jack of all trades ski. They are especially great in soft snow. The only negative for me is they are a touch too flexy and wide for most east coast days. I like to ski fast and they get a bit flappy at high speeds. Thinking of selling them and getting 2 skis for a more specialized quiver.

Looking for a ski like the reckoner but narrower underfoot and beefier for east coast ice and speed. Like I mentioned I like to ski glades when conditons allow, park (nothing insane, just some chill jumps and rails and switch skiing), and also rip groomers. I was thinking Poachers but maybe want a ski that is more nimble. Jeffery 96?

And for soft snow days + west coast trips i was thinking of even getting the reckoner 112. maybe im overthinking everything and am fine with just the 102s

Poachers def have the middle ground waist and the flex u mentioned tryna get after. Jeff 96s are insanely rockered, and especially if they’re coming w the factory detune you’re gonna hate life on them typical ice coast days.

Having recently had the 'opportunity' to ski icy trails every day for a while (Europe this winter is not the one), I have learned to appreciate longer effective edge more than ever before. I've only skied on the east a few days but basically I would avoid too much rocker, especially in the tail, and too much taper if I were you. I love the Dynastar MFree 99, for example, but it probably has more rocker than you'd want.

In the ~100mm category, the Black Ops 98 and Atomic Bent 100 are great options for the east. Poacher could also go, it's a really solid, versatile ski. The Faction Prodigy 2.0 is also pretty solid yet playful enough to get by.

However, my recently formed opinion is you really want something narrower for those harder days. The Bent 90 is also a great ski, just like the 100 but quicker and grippier. The Black Crows Captis sounds sick but I haven't skied it yet, and the Black Crows Mirus Cor has some kind of sorcery going on because it's ridiculously fun, while still holding an edge insanely well. My only concern is the camber is pretty much flat after a couple days, so it might get loose over time. So much fun so far though.

I would look at something ~90 and then a ~99-102mm ski with a bit more rocker for the soft/slushy days. That way you can have a ski that holds an edge well, plus a playful ski in the wider range.

Been rocking 184 Poachers this season, I'll give ya a quick review.

50/50 Park/Allmtn skier. Mounted 1cm back, they feel great laying trenches on groomers at 40-50, and can still butter and pivot around in the tow park with no issues. I've never found myself needing them to be more maneuverable. Jumps and rails feel mint. Very switch friendly skis.

I was on some 87mm wide AR7's for the past few seasons and they ski ice about the same. Nothing outside the ordinary. It's ice.

Flex is solid, definitely not a noodle, but the rocker makes them pressable, and they will respond if you can flex a ski hard. Your Reck's will obviously be more butterable, but that's really the only thing you compromise on (and maybe a bit of soft snow performance).

@rojo.grande Have you skied Jeff 96s? I’m in the same boat as this guy, and currently have Kartel 106s. Was thinking of getting J96 as a slimmer all mountain ski. Considering the weight and how beefy they are I’d think they would charge through most east coast stuff even considering the rocker profile. 96 would be better on hard pack than 102 I’m guessing

itd def be better. Depending on if you're going to detune them or buy them with the factory detune, your effective edge will be super small when that's paired with the rocker they have. I currently ride mag 102s and have a tough time on some days with them. Granted a 96 would handle better even than what I ride but the extreme rocker/ detune combo would have them feeling similar id expect. without detuning they'd be alright but on those hard days you'll still be wishing for camber
