Most influential skier of all time

Who does NS think is the most influential skier of all time across all disciplines?

Obviously a subjective question, but personally I’m taking Candide Thovex. His presence in the community and his innovation is just something that sparked so much creativity through skiing that I don’t think we would’ve seen without him.

I think I might be going with Glen Plake. He was kinda the first to make skiing cool again after the FIS shut down hot dog skiing (an argument can be made for a lot of those guys too), and his style and attitude paved the way for new school skiing. Big inspiration for a lot of the guys who started the new school movement, THall talks about him a lot, while also being wildly influential in the field of big mountain skiing

Hes definitely one of the older new school skiers I’ve seen stuff of, not too familiar with him though

1ukasHes definitely one of the older new school skiers I’ve seen stuff of, not too familiar with him though

he kind of invented ski mountaineering and freestyle.

Definitely Colby Stevenson, his story and what unfortunately happened to him has inspired many to keep on pushing especially Trevor kennison love to see the man still doing what he loves!

It's Glen Plake no contest, if you parents ski ask them about his ski tour across the country he did decades ago.

My mom is decently high up in PSIA in the Midwest and Glen came to Nubs for a clinic and she told me he had a massive line to get autographs. The crazy thing, a large part of that line was kids 16 and under.

Garret Whaley, Zahner, and Lupe.


Grew up riding with Garrett, watching him progress has been one of the greatest joys of my life tbh. He filmed my first 1080, and now I’m watching him get filmed on the gnarliest rails I’ve ever seen.

Lupe is the champion of Connecticut and got 860 printed on multiple skis. We always knew he was going pro, he’s one of the greatest Carinthia legends ever.

Zahner put jersey on the map and also was the kid everyone my age was looking up to. He came in to the scene so young and was just dropping outrageous videos constantly. It wasn’t that he was good and young, that’s not super uncommon, but he was so consistent with making edits. Probably made like 30 banger edits before he was 18, would always pull up to Carinthia with a camera crew and film the gnarliest shit. Some of those gopro edits I still play on repeat.

I'm just here to say that seth morrison, sara burke, eric pollard, scott schmidt, and johnny moseley deserve to be in the convo. Most influential could mean a bunch of different things like if they inspired other freeskiers or reached out into the global consciousness like true superstars do. Mickael Deshenaux, Phil Casabon and Will Wesson are hugely influential inside our newschoolers sphere just like Doug Coombs, Ingrid Backstrom, Mike douglas are in big mountain. Its impossible to quantify without knowing who influenced who and how much one person is accredited for inspiring other great skiers who also changed the game.

In actuality i think its something like this for freeskiing but I honestly feel bad about leaving out jp, t wall, burke, and dollo

i had an opportunity to meet him at whaleback a few years back and i have no idea why i didn't. all i had to do was go upstairs in the lodge and say hi like wtf. stupid ahh young me 💀

Not to mention the skis and graphic designed he's created over the years.

Pollard is one of my top. McConkey and Thovex also. All of them have such great freestyle and big mountain steez, showed me how to make a mountain a playground.
If I were more of a purely freestyle skier, Dumont, T Hall, and Henrik would be my top 3.
