FunpersonThe 194 belafontes I have are essentially a gnarlier version of the commanders from about 5 years ago with a little bit of tail rocker. And they feel quite small unfortunately.
I agree with the notion that stiffness and effective edge are just as important as overall length. But, I mount my skis a little closer to center than most, so the psychology of not seeing much ski in front of me is kinda scary. That's why overall length is probably the most important factor to me.
I'm not sure where you ski, but if you ski Tahoe, I'd hit up moment's factory in sparks, I think their demo program is back up, try the new commanders mounted at recommended... it might just work out for you. And it's free. No way to tell the commander is "less burly" without skiing them. I'd imagine they are quite burly, and probably will have more ski in front of you vs your belafontes.
Otherwise, not sure where you ski, but Palisades has a wide selection of demo skis. If they have anything above 190, might be good to check out some more directional skis to have more ski in front of you. I think you'd be surprised how 'freestyle' (ie short) moments feel compared to other skis. And if you get it at the resort, you could save some money by trying out multiple skis in the same day. Otherwise, whatever is local to you, probably any shop with a decent demo selection will have volkls/ blizzards/ nordicas/ fischers which are all generally very stiff and directional. I think it's worthwhile trying out at least a few of those just given what you are looking for in a ski. Might be difficult to find multiple skis in 190+ length though. I'd call ahead. But, good luck man!
