Sony E mount fisheyes

ASAPCarterI’ve been wanting to get into filming for a while and recently came up on a vg30. Not exactly what I was looking for but it was such a good deal I couldn’t pass it up. Anyways, I need a fisheye lens for it and don’t really know which one to get other than that it has to fit the e mount. Sorry if this is a dumb question, I just don’t really know much at all about this stuff.

You kinda have two options. A rokinon/samyang/knockoff 7.5mm or a round 6.5mm circular fisheye. Depends of the fisheye effect you are looking for. IMO the 180 circular fisheye looks like shit. I use a 7artisans paired with my a6500 and have no compaints.

Gotcha I’ll check out 7artisans for sure. Probably wanna go the full frame route. Another dumb question but how much does focal length matter in the context of fisheyes?

There used to be a ton of comparisons on skateperception forums (rip), and anything 6-8mm was essentially the same, unless using a speedbooster.
It definitely matters more for full frame/s35 cameras. I'd say the canon 8-15mm is the goat for those, but you can also consider primes like 12mm/14mm depending on what you desire

its asp-c so the rokinon 7.5 is the play IMO. I would avoid the 8-16, 12 or 14 unless you have FF, they aren't full "fisheyes" on asp-c.

I have the TTartisan 7.5mm f2 and like it a lot, especially considering how affordable it is ($125). It's definitely a great option for e-mount crop sensors, and still works pretty well on a full frame camera like the a7siii with 1.4-1.5x clear image zoom (yes, you are no longer shooting 'true' 4k, but the image still looks great). Also it has a ND1000 filter that comes with it which is perfect for bright outdoor conditions (skiing). Most fisheyes don't allow the use of NDs, so if your camera body doesn't have ND's built in this is a great option. It's also very compact and well built, although the lens cap can be a bit of a pain.

Haven't seen a head to head with the Rokinon but I've shot with both and they seem comparable.
