Full Tilt Descendant Bottom Buckle Mod

Hey guys I've had these boots a while now and when I'm riding the bottom buckle always opens up on its own whenever i apply forward pressure. This happens a lot switch and it always throws me off. Even if it stays down I often still manage to hit it on something and mangle it up.

So I figured I would flip it similar to the way the Ascendant and B&Es have it. I didn't use any new parts and just flipped it around and it worked. I did wind up lowering the hole for the tooth end piece because it was too close to the tongue. Sealed the old hole and added some loctite and went skiing today and it was perfect. No more problems:)

I definitely recommend this for someone who's experiencing the same issue on an older pair if they haven't done this already.

Yeah mine were pretty bad too. I just did my best to bend them back enough to kinda function.

Haven't ridden the Descendant shell (though I do love my original shell FTs), but I always took the front buckle off completely with any DB Kryptons and Lupos I've owned. As long as my instep/ankle was properly strapped in, I've never really felt any need to crank down on my forefoot...though I'd imagine this might not be the best move with the Descendant unless you have a really wide forefoot. The Descendant last is really roomy, particularly in the forefoot.

YMMV, but if it works for you just plug up the holes with some rubber washers, t-nuts, and bolts, and you're good to go.

Yeah my foot gets loose in these if it’s not tight but I figured some people also just removed it completely. Bonus +1 for weight savings too with that lol

The Voile XL straps were a big one for weight savings, too. I've always used Boosters, but the elastic straps and metal slide locks aren't the lightest things in the world. The Voile XL straps are crazy light and surprisingly powerful. I rode them side by side with Boosters (i.e. one boot Booster, one boot Voile XL) when I was testing the idea and couldn't tell a difference in power, response, elasticity, etc. The only trade-off is losing the infinite adjustment range you get from the Booster sliders vs. the belt notch style of the Voiles.
