iFlipI think this thread needs a voice of reason.
RWD = Absolute crap in the snow. Forget about trying to get first chair on a pow day.
Power steering leak. That’s a major issue. There will be other major issues all of the time in a vehicle this old. Don’t have your first car be a vehicle that is constantly requiring significant maintenance. Definitely don’t start with a major mechanical issue.
Before you buy anything, have the seller agree to let you take it to a mechanic to have it checked out (on your dime of course). My bet is if you take this van to a mechanic they will be able to give you an idea how much repairing the power steering leak will be, plus they will uncover a host of other issues that will negate you having to think about purchasing it.
If cost is a concern, which I’m guessing it is, put your money into as new a sedan as you can find. A Honda, Nissan, Kia, Toyota, any basic car. Stay away from anything “luxury” even if it is cheap because repairs will be significantly more.
piss_boyThanks man. I guess buying a sedan, and doing some camping trips and build stuff on the inside can give me an idea if I want to save longer for a van while having a reliable vehicle

SessionIf you only knew how many first chair pow days I nabbed my first 5 years in Oregon driving a RWD Infiniti G35. A good set of snow tires is all you need to make the dream a reality.

r00kieThis is located in Wisconsin too, don't think this guy is too worried about pulling any snowy grades.
CrunnchyPissFartI second that, my highschool car was a Volvo 240, sandbags and blizzaks made that thing an absolute bomber in the snow, whipping that thing on pow days to the hill after school was always such a good time, I never got it stuck except for one time my homies were out drifting in a backwoods lot and I put er in a 5 foot drift
RWD is a blast in the snow if you do it right, plus you have an added level of maneuverability that you don't get with FWD, the ability to kick the rear out really comes in handy in the snow around sharp corners

ASSholebomber22Did it have an lsd? Because that makes all the difference.
Op I'd pass on an open diff rwd van if a mountain-mobile is what you're after. You'll want a 4x4 almost immediately. Otherwise if you plan on cruising around and hauling a ton of shit this is a great choice
SessionNope.
ASSholebomber22Sounds terrible to drive up the mountain ngl lol I wouldn't trust my open diff rwd car in the parking lot of my local on a bluebird day
piss_boy
Always wanted a van and this seems pretty cheap for the miles and stuff included. What do you guys think
