How to slide wooden rails

Alright guys so I found a pretty dope wooden handrail I want to try and tackle this winter.


im just wondering how people ski slide wood without falling to their deaths

More friction depending on if it’s icy or not. Similar to corrugated tube, lean a little more into it. I’ve caught my front edge a couple times trying at the beginning for sure it’ll probably happen at some point.

It's not too bad honestly, just keep a wide/low stance and start small.

I gave up after going over the handlebars when my skis stuck to the wood. From that day on, I dont trust wooden rails

Wax it
if no wax, make sure it’s nice and wet.

Bring your skis to your local shop and have your edges sharpened. Then wait for a warmer humid day to hit it.

Sliding should be pretty simple, sit light, really focus on leaning into the uphill edges of the skis and she’ll go. but if you’re going for tech on wooden rails I’m gonna advise you to choose something better to do with ur time cuz I’ve watched so many kids get bodied doing that

If you have a pair of skis with the edges ripped out under the feet, that will help you not catch. It's easier if it's really cold out and the rail is frozen. Also easier to grind logs (round top, closed grain) than a rail made from cut lumber where the grain is open.

You want it to be cold with a layer of frost or ice but if its warm and humid especially if the rail is wet your edges sink into the wood. You can still slode lie that

Try and freeze the top of the rail, use a shit ton of wax and use b dog edgeless or a ski with really dull edges

this! plus don't overthink it. it'll probably slide better than you think it would, especially if you're hitting it on a cold day. if it's warm out, the snow will make the rail wet, which will make the wood soft, which could cause some issues

Clip is a few years old but I always just 50-50’d them. I don’t want to mess with my edges sticking

bring a drill and some deck screws for when you inevitably break part of it

freeze or wax it but also hit it a little faster than you think you need to. Should prevent the edges clipping up

Different wood, and different weather will have an impact. If it's something you're hiking a little snow on it to wet it down a bit is nice. Wood rails are fun. They can buck you sometimes but honestly slide better than you'd think.
