I recently developed a shellfish allergy and I'm sorta confused about how to handle it/what to expect. I think it can get pretty serious so I was wondering the best ways to avoid a reaction. Do you guys really trust restaurants or know if there's a way to test food so I don't get all itchy and swollen?
Avoid sushi shops and seafood restaurants and get a couple epipens. I have an intolerance to shellfish; if I eat scallops or muscles, I spend an hour throwing up red shit a few hours later.
Allergies can range in severity. You may just get a rash and hives. You might just have an upset stomach or the shits. You could develop swelling in various parts of your body - usually your face/mouth/throat which is epipen territory.
How did you learn of this allergy? testing? Or by accident after eating it? True allergic reactions get stronger/more severe after each exposure so if you haven't been tested I highly advise it. You can get a script for an epipen which can sometimes decrease the cost. Keep your epipen and benadryl on hand at all times.
