Fun and crazy development in Tennessee as Ober Gatlinburg just finalized a deal to sell to the owner of Ole Smoky Mountain moonshine and YeeHaw brewery. The possibilities of what can be done in a tourist town are unimaginable and I am really excited to see what happens. They have been involved with the mountain for years by sponsoring the race and freestyle programs, so I think they’ll be able to keep the vibe the locals love while bringing in more money and marketing strategy. Rumor mill suggests more summer activities and bigger events in the winter.
As exciting as the buyout is, the previous owners are pioneers in the skiing community and I wanted to give them some recognition. The Anders family has been running the mountain since 1975 and dedicated their life to giving the best experience possible. They were always greeting guests as they walked in and never afraid to drive a shuttle bus if need be. Even though the location is in a tourist trap, they never wavered on giving the locals what they wanted and treated the staff like family. Although the resort is going to see a lot of positive changes, I just wanted to honor the family that taught myself and many others the ropes.
