HiHowAreYouThis post is too political. Take it down.
eheathcry about it more
HiHowAreYoudon't be a bully
eheathpost better
snowmosexualDoes this mean I can smoke weed in national parks
AndrewGravesSVI looked into this a bit more and apparently it only pardons around 6500 people, none of which are currently in jail. For sure a political ploy to get some votes in November. While I still think its a step in the right direction, it doesn't solve anything. I guess hes trying
eheathLiterally nobody cares my dudes.
eheathIdk why this is such a big shock/story to everyone here, 99% of moves made by politicians is to gain voters, most elections are just a game.
VTshredder69That's why you're part of the problem.
You don't care that she locked up minorities for selling grams of marijuana.
WHO CARES RIGHT? I'LL STILL VOTE FOR HER!!!
Yep, american problem.
Tell Josh patterson he suck at mountain biking
HAVE A GOOD ONE!
theabortionatorThe dumb thing to me is pardoning people for weed to get votes means that you think the people are fine with weed. Then making no effort legalize, decriminalize or anything. Isn't it still a schedule 1?
Idk, I wish we had more people in politics who weren't 150 years old. It's been almost a decade since states started legalizing weed. It should take this much, but plenty to show that it's not s big deal.
Idk if we can't even get this issue right, which sounds pretty obvious and straight forward, hard to have faith in tackling tougher issues.
eheaththe main issue with politics is the old whites in control of everything, this will slowly change but for now we're just making it easier for older people to live longer and be cognitive longer, so it could take awhile.
Professor-Modelofunny how you assume anyone calling out her glaring hypocrisy is a conservative

CaseyI think it’s a pretty safe assumption. No one outside of the AM talk radio bubble spends more than about 4 seconds a month thinking about the VP.
And that’s what I don’t get- it’s like you’d think her being not a psycho defund the police libtard would keep her out of the crosshairs of the right. But you know she’s… not white… so right wing is gonna find a way to go full Klan on her

Professor-Modeloyoure confusing DA kamala with VP kamala... two very different people with different opinions on policy... the second she became a representative of the party on a national scale she went from being tough on crime to the leader of the "root causes" and "equity" crew

PacificRimJobBeing that I might be one of the very few active people on here who actually lived/worked in the Bay Area while she was DA (whattup @TheLorax ), and am definitely qualified to speak on this matter, you gotta realize what California and the Bay Area was like nearly 20 years ago when she was elected SF's DA...
First of all, I am 35 now. I was a Freshman/Sophmore in high school back then. I should have 3 kids by now and a house with flying cars in the driveway. This was a long fuckin time ago. Things were different.
San Francisco was definitely very liberal in 2002/2003 when she started running for AD, but when it came to how the public perceived drug-crimes, it was still very much along the same lines as much the rest of the country was at the time. Every local and state politician from whatever party was always displaying this "tough on crime" attitude and campaign slogan. Even in 2007 when she ran unopposed, this was a time when California had a Republican Governor and was a year away from voting to ban Gay Marriage - yeah. California. Voting firmly against Gay Marriage. Imagine that.. It was like that 14 years ago... Mary Jane was still seen by the majority of people - including my 40-something-year-old hyper-liberal parents - as "drugs r bad mkay" - shit, my mom STILL doesnt like me getting stoned, and she hasn't voted for a Republican in her LIFE.
Public opinion certainly shifted during the late 2000s, but voters when Kamala was AD were still old-school and didn't want their kids - like, Late-GenXers and Elder Millenials to smoke the weed.
In any case, her office oversaw what.. 1900 convictions over 8 years? for a county of 800,000 people? That's pretty paltry to start - and the grand majority of those were concurrent with other, more serious crimes - such as distribution of the dankness along with crack or meth. Low-level green-stuff convictions were super rare and always were repeat offenders who had been convicted of much more serious crimes in the past. Her office had a no-time policy for ganja offenses and resulted in either community service, or small fines.
Calling out Kamala as a hypocrite for how her office handled pot cases back 15 years ago is pretty silly being that the political environment - even in San Francisco - generally called for it to be handled much harsher.. Was it right? no - but her office was absolutely one of the most liberal on the matter in the country at the time.
Word_of_the_LordIt's great for progress, especially coming from the mouth of someone who is against federal legalization.
Regarding the pardons, I'm all for pardons for possession and home grow for personal/friend use because 1) it's weed lol and 2) it has been proven that charging for marijuana possessions has been disproportionate across ethnicities. Because it is disproportionate, people have been charged who otherwise might not had they been a different skin color, social class, or well connected.
I am not in favor of giving pardons out to big time dealers. Yeah if you were out growing and selling mass quantities, then you demonstrated a blatant disregard for the law. You didn't get put in jail because you're black, blue, or purple. You got charged because you broke the fucking law. You knew the risks. You knew the potential sentences. Do the time or don't do the crime. Simple. Now I think it would be reasonable to review people's sentences who are currently in jail and consider revising them to reasonable lengths; 30 years or even life in some cases is a bit excessive for pot.
This is 100% a political move. No way Biden does a 180 this close to election season. Shit, the senate democrats might even have stalled their cannabis bills in an attempt to sway some more voters into giving a larger majority; they did not make it a priority to push the legislation through like the house did.

Professor-ModeloI think putting people in jail for selling non dangerous drugs is dumb as fuck, but deadly ones are a different story
CaseyThat is a great story but I don’t think it’s a good idea to let things like “what actually happened” get in the way of baseless political ideology. I’m sure you understand.
