Fuck, such sad news this morning. She was a pioneer of big mountain skiing and took on some of the gnarliest shit I've seen. Her and Jim Morrison's descent of Lhotse that was in Powder a few years ago was mindblowing to me.

Ski in Peace. We owe a lot to Hilaree for the crazy boundaries she has broken over her insanely accomplished career in the mountains. Remembered as a legend. 🙏

I feel horrible for her children and for Jim, he’s lost two partners now. Hilaree has been such an inspiration to me for years.

I feel so awful for Jim Morrison (and Hilaree's kids of course), his wife/kids died in a plane crash 10 years ago and now this. Definitely puts into perspective the comparatively minor problems in my life.

Yeah but a legacy is worth bestowing upon your own blood and flesh. I get it too but if my mom was her and went out like this, I'd be sad but also extremely prod.

Im with you on this one, skiing is worth living, its not worth dying for. When I have kids I feel that will be the responsibility for me over everything else.

Yeah, well something tells me if she had that kind of mindset, she would have never accomplished the nutty things you're all praising her for. For some skiing is worth the risk.

Im with you. As a dad of 3, my sole responsibility is being present for my kids. To each their own, but the extreme adventure stuff should end once you make the decision to carry the burden of raising children.

That being said, very sad anytime you hear of something like this

We all have acceptable risk levels, I think that changes once you have children to support and raise, but its a personal choice for everyone.

as much as i admired erik roner i felt the same way when he died. how are you still launching yourself off shit in a wingsuit when you have a wife and kids waiting for you at home?

I see where you are coming from, but I think what this idea is missing is that this was her way to provide for her kids. Her North Face sponsorship is not going to pay unless she continues to partake in mountaineering. It is easy to place blame on her for taking risks, but at the same time, this was her livelihood.

Furthermore, absolutely divesting loss. Her impact on the Telluride community sounded extensive, and she was a inspiration to women, mothers, and many more.

With all due respect for the situation, I disagree with this stance.

I also think I was I bit harsh yesterday. This is an issue I have with our sport and adrenaline junkies in general, myself included. That discussion is obviously for a different thread.

It's incredibly sad that she passed away and I have no doubt that we lost a wonderful and inspirational human being.
